How to Format a Head Waiter Resume

A head server can choose one of three resume formats. The hybrid and chronological format rely on a consistent and rich work history to outline your skills and accomplishments. The functional resume relies on specialized training to outline your wait staff qualifications. We can look at the two sample candidates below to examine the key differences between these formats. Candidate A highlights their decade of experience, but Candidate B relies on a rich history of skills to downplay less than a year’s worth of professional experience.

Although the functional resume can highlight your managerial, restaurant and customer service skills, we strongly advise against using it unless you have a direct connection with the restaurant management staff. This resume is highly informative, but the customizable sections baffle online applicant tracking systems (ATS) and negatively impact your resume’s score. This strategy can dramatically reduce the number of interview callbacks you receive if submitting your application through an ATS.
