MTB Frequently Asked Questions

I see you cover custom builds, how do I value my custom built mountain bike?

Most of our riders customise their bike in some way, whether it’s a fully Hope tricked out rig or opting for stronger wheels for DH riding.

You should enter the value for the bike as it would cost to rebuild it in the event it was stolen i.e. to buy everything again. Ask your local bike shop if you need any help or give the team a call.

How to value your bike

Is my MTB covered on my car rack when I take it to a trail?

To comply with your Bikmo MTB insurance policy your bikes need to be locked to your bike rack through the frame using an appropriately rated Sold Secure lock.

Also, consider that the time your bike is locked to the rack and left unattended is restricted to certain hours.

Check out the link below for full details.

Bikmo Locking Requirements

What are the locking requirements for my MTB?

We apply the Sold Secure lock rating system to our policy requirements; it’s easy to follow and used by the cycling industry –www.soldsecure.com.

Locks are rated for their level of security, and we set a value of bike that is covered by each rating: Bronze (up to €300), Silver (€301 – €1700) and Gold (over €1700).

If your Sold Secure approved U lock comes with an additional wire cable, the cable is not included in the approved rating, it’s just the lock. This means that if you secured the bike through the frame to an immovable object, with the cable only, you wouldn’t be covered!

If you leave your bike unattended away from your home, it’ll need to be locked. There’s times at home too, depending on how you store it, so check out our Locking guide for full details on our requirements.

Locking Requirements

I’m off to ride trails in Finale Ligure – does your mountain bike insurance policy cover me?

Yes –we like adventures too, so you’re covered for 90 days worldwide as standard with your Bikmo MTB policy.

Your policy also includes damage or theft to your bike whilst in transit – more time for focussing on your route.

Am I covered for riding jumps and berms at my local MTB trail centre?

We cover any jumps, drops and berms that are on properly designated trails, such as trail centres or pump tracks.

We don’t cover ‘stunts’ however, such as building a massive kicker in some privately owned woods.

If you’re the new Danny Macaskill then you should probably give us a call.

Full MTB policy benefits

I’m planning to ride some Enduros this year – does your policy cover me?

Yes –we cover events as standard with our Bikmo MTB policy, including Enduros, XC and DH events.

It also includes bikes in transition areas, should your event have one.
