Minecraft Guide: How to Kill the Ender Dragon (2024)

In this guide the players will learn how to kill this bloodthirsty beast.

Gear and Loadout

Fighting the Ender Dragon is a difficult task and getting through it will need some preparation from the player's side. The players should have a proper set of gear and weapons to defend and attack the Ender Dragon easily. This gear and weapons should be procured before entering the End Portal.

First thing that the players will need is a Diamond Sword, this weapon can be crafted by procuring diamonds from the world. One more thing that players will need for this weapon is added sharpness, the sharper it is, the easier it gets to fight the flying beast. For that the players should add sharpness enchantments to the Diamond Sword. The players should also carry a Diamond Pickaxe and Shovel for this difficult journey.

The next thing that players will need is a Bow, this bow should have an Infinity enchantments so that the player does not run out of arrows mid battle. Ender Dragon is a flying enemy type, therefore shooting it with arrows is the recommended option. The players should also put on some diamond armour as it can help them with protection from the Dragon's devastating attacks.

The players should use the protection enchantment instead of the fire enchantment as that will provide the player with more protection. Even though the Ender Dragon has fire attacks, for some reason the protection enchantment works better than the fire enchantment. One more enchantment is that players should put feather falling on their boots as some attacks of the beast can send them flying in the air, and this will help with fall damage.

Players should also stack up on some food as this will help them regain some health while in battle. Golden Apples and Steaks are the preferred choice as they will provide the maximum amount of health. Another thing that players should keep in mind is the potion of Slow Falling as they will be dealing with a lot of falls in this battle.

The players should also carry a potion of strength as that will be the extra strength needed to defeat the dragon and the surrounding mobs. One of the mobs that will annoy the player the most are the Enderman, players should wear the anti-Enderman charm which will help them battle this enemy. The anti-Enderman charm is none other than a carved pumpkin.

Defeating the Ender Dragon

First thing when encountering the Ender Dragon is drinking the slow falling potion, this will save the players from any damage they might receive from the dragon's launch attack. One thing to keep in mind is that the effects of this potion are temporary and they will need to keep replenishing it after every 4 minutes.

Another attack that players should watch out for is the fire ball attack. The fire ball attacks will be launch at the player for the entirety of the fight. This attack can be dodged easily as it just follows one trajectory and does not actually follow the player. As soon as they hear the sound cue of the Ender Dragon breathing fire, they should move a couple of boxes away to dodge this attack.

Now to take on this enemy, the players will first have to break the End cCrystals that are found on top of the Obsidian Towers. The first crystals that players should go for have iron cages on them. They should build ledges to reach this crystal and then break it apart with any of their diamond tools. For the other crystals, the players can just shoot at them with their arrows and break them down.

After shattering all the End Crystals, the player can then move on to killing the Ender Dragon. The players should go for attacking the dragon's tail, this can be done when he comes to breathe fire on the ground in the centre platform. Once he is there, just hop and attack the tail to deal some damage to the Dragon. Shoot arrows at the Dragon when in the air and the players should eventually deplete all the health.

After the Ender Dragon has been defeated, the players will receive a whopping amount of XP, along with a Dragon egg. This Dragon Egg can be kept by the player and placed in their home or any other constructs as a trophy for taking down the biggest and baddest beast in Minecraft.
