How to Make and Use Potions

To start making potions, you'll need the corresponding recipe for the game's six craftable potions. You can purchase them with the necessary ingredients from J Pippin's Potions in Hogsmeade, right across from the West Hogsmeade Floo Flame.

You'll also need to attend your first Potions Class. If you have not gained access to the Room of Requirement, you'll have to use the Potion Station inside Professor Sharp's classroom.

Once you've gained access to the Room of Requirement, one of the first things you can conjure is a Small Potions Station that you can use to brew one potion at a time. However, you'll soon realize that this is not the most efficient way to craft many potions at once.

The solution to this issue is to purchase either of these two Conjuration Spellcrafts from Thomas Brown at the Tomes and Scrolls shop in Hogsmeade:

  • Medium Potions Station Spellcraft (1,500 G)
  • T-Shaped Potions Station Spellcraft (2,000 G)

The Medium Potions Station can brew two potions at once, while the T-Shaped Potions Station can brew three.

If you are constantly low on potion ingredients, you can purchase the Hopping Pot Spellcraft from the same vendor for 3,000 G—it'll brew you a random potion every 12 minutes.

How to Use Potions

All potions in Hogwarts Legacy are combat-oriented tools, and since they have a relatively low active time, you'll want to save them exclusively for fighting against formidable enemies.

To use your potions, press LB/L1/Tab (Xbox, PS, PC) to activate your currently selected potion. To choose another potion, hold the button and use your Left Analog Stick or Mouse to hover over the ones you want to use.

  • The only potion that does not use this method is the Wiggenweld Potion, which is automatically assigned to your Down D-Pad or G on your keyboard.
