How to Cook Hot Dogs in a Slow Cooker

Cris here. The other day I was flipping through Gooseberry Patch’s Busy Day Slow Cooking and I saw a recipe for Steamed Hot Dogs from Erin Brock of Charleston, WV and I knew that we could use our favorite potluck slow cooker— Big Bertha– to crock up a huge batch of hot dogs and send them into work with Mikey. He of course made a video of this super complicated recipe ;).

Cooking Hot Dogs in Bulk Notes

  • We put 20 hot dogs in each of our 2.5 qt crocks, but you can place as many that will fit. The original recipe from Gooseberry Patch’s Busy Day Slow Cooking says up to 60, but you could even do more depending on the size of your slow cooker.
  • We like to place hot dogs in the two outside slow cookers and then place a topping or dip in the center for parties (see the bottom of this post for the center crock recipe!). This is just perfect for backyard BBQs and parties.
  • You can cook this on low for 3-4 hours or high for 1-2. Once cooked through, I would flip your slow cooker to a warm setting for serving.

  • As with any of our recipes, carb counts, calorie counts and nutritional information varies greatly. As a result, your nutritional content depends on which products you choose to use when cooking this dish. The auto-calculation is just an automated estimate and should NOT be used for specific dietary needs.
  • All slow cookers cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline. Recipes shouldalways be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.

Cris, about steamed dogs. In Quebec Lesters make a dog just for steaming. In French Canada they are called Hot Dog Steame ( with an accent ). When steamed they bulge out , out the ends of the bun , a appetizing meal . Another delight I found is a ” Pogo ” like your corn dog but home made.A chip stand in Sturgeon Falls, Northern Ontario take a weiner , insert stick , dip in home made batter and deep fry upright , ask if you want mustard then paint on a light coat of mustard , all over. Sales as of 10 years ago, for only 8 months. 30,000 units. Yes 30,000 and growing. Profit?????????? Enjoy.

This is a very good idea–love it–only problem is–you forgot chili as a topping. Can’t have hot dogs without chili. At least at our home, for the last 4 decades I have always had to have chili on them. Maybe it’s just a Texas thing.

Keep up the good work. Love many of your recipes.
