Farm animals were never born to be free, and would not know how to protect themselves in the wild. One of the most important jobs we humans have is to watch over them, to keep them safe, well-fed and healthy, so they can continue to do their jobs on the farm.
These animals produce something of value to humans, such as milk, eggs, wool, or honey, or are farmed for their skills, such as horses, mules, and burros. Whatever the reason, the cultivation of farm animals is an enormous business.
Many domestic animals can prosper in the wild despite having adapted to thousands of years in captivity. This phenomenon offers an interesting window into the process of adaptation to natural environments. Not all domesticated species do well when left to their own devices in a natural environment.
Goats are herd animals and even if you have two goats, they may attempt to escape to locate a herd. If the fencing is not strong and tall enough to keep them in, they will repeatedly escape.
If you feel threatened by the cattle: Do not panic and run away, they are probably being inquisitive and will run to keep up with you. If you stop they will keep a safe distance from you. Raise your voice – but do not shout – and raise you arms to make yourself look bigger – but do not wave them about.
Being on a Farm Is Peaceful
One of the most well-known benefits of living on a farm is the lack of city noise. The countryside may be filled with sounds of birdsong, crickets, and frogs, but you aren't likely to constantly hear traffic, police sirens, or your upstairs neighbor's footsteps.

On factory farms, animals endure routine mutilations, extreme confinement, and genetic manipulation—all for the supposed benefit of human consumers. Many people don't know where their meat, dairy, or eggs come from.
"Animals in captivity do not usually have the natural behaviors needed for success in the wild," said lead author and animal behavior researcher Kristen Jule. "Their lack of hunting skills and lack of fear towards humans are major disadvantages," she said.
Captive-bred animals generally lack the survival skills necessary to be released into the wild and often have developed such severe zoochosis—psychological trauma brought on by captivity—that they would not survive.
Are goats afraid of anything?

Cows do seem to enjoy petting, at least some of the time. One study showed that eye-white percentage decreased in cows after gentle petting, which implied increased happiness and relaxation.
If you find yourself in a field with a lone bull you might decide it is best to find another route. If you do decide to walk through the field try to give it a reasonably wide berth and walk as quietly round it as you can (try not to run!).
One disadvantage of living on a farm is that it can be less convenient for day-to-day family life. Now, this all depends on where your home is located. Some farms are found way out in the sticks, miles from the nearest town. Others are just a short drive away from the main city center – it varies across the country.
