Newkirk once called a Perdue supervisor to the scene to euthanize suffering chickens who had been left to die from heatstroke in exposed crates. Newkirk discovered that other chickens were thrown alive into “4D” (dead, dying, diseased, and disabled) bins used for meat that is unfit for human consumption.
Perdue does not own 98% of these chicken farms – they own the chickens themselves. Family farmers produce the eggs that are shipped to Perdue for hatching in their facilities. The chicks are distributed to family farms where they are raised.

Our animals are not genetically modified
Animals raised for our conventional (not sold as organic or Non-GMO) products are fed a diet that includes corn, soybeans, other grains and vitamins and minerals. We buy as much local grain as possible, supporting local farmers.
At Perdue, we raise more Free Range chickens than anyone else. Our chickens forage freely in and out of the house, to do natural things birds are supposed to do! They explore grassy areas, peck the ground, take dust baths and soak up the sunshine.
