Did you know that Canarian bananas are picked just days before they arrive in shops across Europe rather than weeks for Caribbean bananas? This means that they are much riper and tastier with more sugar and vitamins. Look for the Plátano de Canarias in your local supermarket.

No matter how quickly a banana gets to market in Europe, it will never be as tasty as the ones that you buy in Gran Canarias. This is because they are allowed to ripen for a much longer time on the tree because of the short delivery time to the European countries whereas the South American variation is harvested up to two months before it actually arrives at your local greengrocer or supermarket.
