As promised, you only need 3 easy-to-find ingredients to make all your oreo cheesecake truffle fantasies come true. Here’s what to grab:

  • Oreos – SURPRISE! Oreos are (and have always been) vegan. This even includes other flavors! The only exceptions to this rule are chocolate-covered Oreo varieties and Oreo Cakesters.
  • Vegan Cream Cheese – If you haven’t found your favorite brand yet, check out my helpful guide on how to find the best vegan cream cheese money can buy.
  • Vegan Chocolate – If you can’t find vegan chocolate chips in the baking aisle, stroll over to the candy aisle where the bar chocolate lives. Any unflavored Lindt Chocolate Excellence with 70% or more cocoa is vegan, as are most dark chocolate options of Green & Black Organics, Tony’s Chocolonely, and unfilled Chocolove brands. Specialty shops like Trader Joe’s & Whole Foods also have lots of options.

Pro Tips for Making Oreo Truffles

  • Use a disher for even scoops. While the first iteration of cocoa-dusted, irregularly shaped truffles were so named because they looked like the hom*onymous mushrooms, these chocolate-dipped babies are easy to make look like a box of See’s chocolates. To get perfectly sized treats, use a mini cookie scoop (a.k.a. “disher” in the parlance of the great Alton Brown).
  • Temper your chocolate for a shiny exterior. While this is an optional step that takes a bit of know-how, it’ll result in better-looking treats.
  • Decorate your chocolate-coated Oreo cookie truffles with a:
    • Sprinkling of crushed Oreos,
    • Drizzle of melted chocolate (using a variety of dark, “milk” or white chocolates for added visual interest)
    • Sprinkles or sanding sugar

Optional Add-Ins & Variations

While these dairy-free Oreo cookies truffles are pretty perfect just the way they are, there’s always room for customization. Here are a few variations worth experimenting with:

  • Make them holiday specific. Making Oreo Christmas Truffles or Halloween Oreo Truffles is as simple as using sprinkles, vegan candy melts or dying white chocolate in classic color combinations like green and red or orange and purple.
  • Try a different flavor of Oreo. Some of my favorites include Oreo Mint Truffles (consider adding ¼ – ½ teaspoon of mint extract to your melted chocolate to double down on the minty flavor) or Golden Oreo Truffles.
  • Gluten-Free Oreo Truffles. Simply swap in gluten-free Oreos and you should be good to go!
