What should I know when preparing for my trip to Denmark?
Security: Denmark is one of the safest countries in the world but as with anywhere, you should take some care in busy public places and on public transport - particularly in Copenhagen, and by taking obvious precautions like not flaunting or leaving valuable items such as mobile phones, cash or laptops and tablets unattended.
Public transport: Trains run directly to Copenhagen Central Station (Hovedbanegård) from many places in Europe, including from the U.K. via the Channel Tunnel. An excellent train network can take you onwards to other Danish cities. If you want to reach Nørrebro, Vesterbro, Frederiksberg, Osterbrø or other areas of metropolitan Copenhagen, metro trains are the best option. In addition to this, Copenhagen has an extensive electric bike rental network, allowing for cheap travel. Buses are also a cheap and easy way of getting around - but may require some planning as to routes and times.
Opening hours: Most shops in Copenhagen are open throughout the week and on Sundays too - although a few shops (typically smaller stores, along the side streets) are closed on Sundays. Some stores have limited opening hours on Sundays.
Restaurants: The normal dinner time for a lot of Danes is 6 p.m. local time with peak hours at restaurants are usually 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. When you book a restaurant you usually have the table for 2 hours, so if you are happy to - you can eat a little bit later or earlier - or book in advance.
Driving license: Visitors from most countries can drive in Denmark with a valid license from their country of residence in the case of most nations.
