Elevate Your Morning: Top Five Breakfast co*cktails
Breakfast, as they say, is the most important meal of the day. So why not pair the most important meal of the day with a tasty beverage? No, I’m not talking about the usual cup of Joe or OJ. I’m talking about a boozy, breakfast treat. This is Chilled Magazine’s list of the top five breakfast co*cktails.
1. Mimosa
The Mimosa might be the most classic of all brunch co*cktails. Orange juice on its own is a breakfast staple. It only makes sense to give it a kick by adding champagne to it. Champagne is usually reserved for celebrations and what better event to celebrate but breakfast. There’s something awesome about imbibing champagne while eating a western omelet with cheese.
Sparkling Wine
Mimosa
Ingredients
- 3 oz. Sparking Wine (Preferably Champagne or Prosecco)
- 3 oz. Orange Juice (Freshly Squeezed For The Best Taste)
- Garnish: Orange Twist or Strawberry
Preparation
- Ensure both the sparkling wine and orange juice are well chilled.
- Fill half of a Champagne flute with sparkling wine.
- Gently pour the orange juice into the glass, filling it up.
- Add an orange twist or strawberry on the rim of the glass for an elegant touch.
- Mimosas are best enjoyed fresh, so serve immediately after preparation.
2. Bloody Mary
If the Mimosa is the most popular breakfast co*cktail, the Bloody Mary isn’t too far behind. This tomato, hot sauce, pepper, vodka fueled drink is the perfect pick me up for the morning after a night of drinking or just a great addition to a meal of toast, eggs, home fries and bacon.
Vodka
Bloody Mary
Ingredients
- 2 oz Vodka
- 4 oz Tomato juice
- 1/2 oz Lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 2-3 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
- Tabasco sauce (to taste)
- Pinch of salt and pepper
- Celery stalk and lemon wedge for garnish
- Optional garnishes: Olives, pickled vegetables, bacon
Preparation
- In a shaker, combine the vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, salt, and pepper.
- Fill with ice and shake gently.
- Strain into a large glass filled with ice.
- Garnish with a celery stalk, lemon wedge, and any additional desired garnishes.
3. Ramos Gin Fizz
The Ramos Gin Fizz doesn’t get as much love as the two most popular breakfast co*cktails, but maybe it should. This drink, popularized in New Orleans, consists of gin, egg whites, sugar, cream, orange flower water, lemon/lime juice and soda water. You can pair it with myriad breakfast favorites. But, since it already contains egg, you can just jump right to sausage, biscuits and gravy.
Gin
Ramos Gin Fizz
Ingredients
- 2 oz. Gin
- 0.5 oz. Simple Syrup
- 0.5 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
- 0.5 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
- 1 Egg White
- 1 oz. Heavy Cream
- 3 Drops Orange Flower Water
- Top With Soda Water
Preparation
- In a shaker, combine gin, simple syrup, lemon juice, lime juice, egg white, heavy cream, and orange flower water.
- First, shake these ingredients without ice (this is called a dry shake) to emulsify the egg white.
- Add ice to the shaker and shake again vigorously. This second shake chills and froths the mixture.
- Strain the mixture into a tall glass, leaving room at the top.
- Gently pour soda water to fill the glass. The foam should rise above the rim of the glass.
- Optionally, garnish with a light zest of lemon or orange peel.
Additional Notes
- The key to a great Ramos Gin Fizz is the shaking. The longer and more vigorously you shake, the creamier and frothier the drink will be.
- Use a high-quality gin for the best flavor profile.
4. Irish Coffee
Many might not consider this to be a breakfast co*cktail since its base is coffee. They are missing out on a real great co*cktail made with coffee, heavy cream, whiskey and sugar. It’s a great way to wake up and get some caffeine pumping through your veins. Especially if you already had a mimosa or two.
