Toothless and Light Fury's Relationship is one of the strongest romantic relationship between dragons seen in the franchise.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World[]

Toothless unknowingly first sensed the presence of the Light Fury concealed in a cageduring a raiding mission, but he was unable to see her, due to her camouflaged in the mist,the Light Fury was the onlydragonthat was not rescued by theDragon Riders.She was then delivered to theWarlords'base shortly before the arrival ofGrimmel the Grisly. The Warlords expressed their concern aboutBerk, and after discussing the benefits of capturing Toothless, theAlpha Dragonof Berk, Grimmel then decided to use the Light Fury as a distraction to capture the dragon.

After sensing the Light Fury's presence on Berk, Toothless descended from a cliff and into a clearing in the forest. He eventually sees her for the first time and the two dragons immediately form amutual attraction, the Light Fury heard a twig snapand fired a plasma blast that destroyed a nearby tree. They soon found out that the intruders wereHiccupandAstrid, with the former being utterly astounded by the sight of the female dragon. The Light Fury fired another plasma blast at Hiccup, forcing Astrid to push him out of the way. Being distrustful ofhumans, the Light Fury took flight and cloaked herself while Toothlesstried to follow her but looked on from a tree.

After the encounter, Toothless starts to become lovesick and is determined to find the Light Fury again, and he eventually does when he and all of the Berkians are flying away from Berk. Toothless is surprised when she tries to toss Hiccup into the ocean and smiles awkwardly at her before he flies down to save his rider. Toothless becomes disappointed when she disappears again.

Not long after the Berkians settle onNew Berk, Toothless meets the Light Fury again as she lures him away from the camp and into a nearby beach. Toothless tumbled down a sandy slope after an effort to dazzle her, which caused quite the opposite. The Light Fury then initiated the mating ritual by prancing around in a circle, and Toothless (with Hiccup's guidance) attempted to continue it with various bird-like dances, eventually driving her to swat him in the head when he got too close. Fed up with his strange courting attempts, the Light Fury finally hung herself from a tree branch and folded her wings in on herself. Toothless 'asked' Hiccup if he should jump on the branch till it broke. Hiccup motioned for him to get off, and he misinterpreted it as jumping on the branch. When Toothless jumped on the branch, he eventually fell. He eventually wins her heart when he uses a broken branch and his tail to draw her face on the sand. The Light Fury then got down off the tree and stepped onto his drawing, which led him to growl at her. Instead of pulling her foot away, She growled back, and Toothless sheepishly dropped the stick. Realizing the source of his offense, she stepped around the drawing,and the two dragons gazed upon each other for a few seconds.the Light FuryflirtsToothless follow her, but the latter is unable to do so due to his missing tail fin.Upon noticing Hiccup hiding nearby, she decided to flee, leaving Toothless in dismay.

Hiccup eventually makes Toothless anautomatic tail finthat enables him to fly on his own and find the Light Fury, as Toothless flew through the skies in search of the Light Fury, she uncloaked and soared beside him. She led him towards what appeared to be a huge storm cloud and both dragons fly inside. There, she demonstrated to him her cloaking ability, leading Toothless to try it himself. After trying with a regular plasma blast, Toothless is unsuccessful, but with the her encouragement, he unknowingly channeled the lightning from the cloud and successfully cloaked. The two dragons then flew up to the top of the clouds where Toothless licked her head, prompting her to swoon over his affection.They then fly together towards theHidden World.

In the Hidden World, she and Toothless followed the other dragons who soared up the giant crystal in the center and dropped back down in a fleeting dive. They did this multiple times before landing at the top, as the dragons of the Hidden World accept Toothless as their Alpha, he then roared for their acceptance, The Light Fury cuddled up to Toothless, who did the same in return and they dance together to officially become mates. prompting all the dragons in the Hidden World to bow. The tender moment is inadvertently interrupted when Toothless realizes that Hiccup and Astrid are being chased by the other dragons, forcing him to leave the Light Fury behind,Toothless is initially saddened that he has to leavehis mate behind after getting Hiccup and Astrid back to New Berk, Hiccup and Astrid share a look as Hiccup gets up the courage to tell Toothless it's okay for him to return to the Hidden World without them. The moment is interrupted both by the Light Fury's appearance, Toothlessbecomes ecstatic when he sees that she has followed them back to New Berk. The reunion is cut short when Grimmel (who had followedRuffnut) shot down both Toothless and the Light Fury, capturing them. After a call from Toothless, all the other dragons flew to protect him. He then called them off after Grimmel threatened to kill the Light Fury and forces all of Berk's dragons to surrender themselves to theWarlords.

Toothlessand hismatehung in Grimmel'sairshiphelpless, and watched as all Berk's dragons were being put into cages. When Grimmel beginsto killToothless, Hiccup the group (Gliding in on wingsuits)caughtGrimmel's army off-guard, igniting a massive battle. While Grimmel uses Deathgripper venom to enslave the Light Fury, Hiccup frees Toothlessand chases after them but they are unwilling to beat the hunter while he is controlling her. then two of Grimmel's Deathgrippers attempted to attack them, but they were defeated when one wasknocked intoa hill and the other was crushed by a rock-slide caused by Toothless. The four remaining Deathgrippers continued to harass the duo and tried to keep them away from their master. Then as they formed a tight ring around them, Toothless uses his cloaking technique to shockthem to death, andfly around Grimmel as Hiccup glides off to rescue the Light Fury. Grimmel manages to sedateToothlessmidair and Hiccup, realizing he cannot save Toothless by himself, frees the Light Fury instead and tells herto saveToothless before falling down with Grimmel. The Light Fury successfully rescues Toothless before coming back to save Hiccup,while allowing Grimmel to fall to his death.

After the battle won, back on the island Toothless and the Light Fury reunite, Hiccup fully realizes that the dragons will likely never be safe in the human world and that the Hidden World is where they truly belong. With great sadness, Hiccup and Toothless bid farewell to each other as all of the Berkians set their dragons free. Toothless and the Light Fury then lead the dragons to the Hidden World. About a decade after the dragons left New Berk, Toothless and his mate havethreeoffspring, each inherit the mixed characteristics of their parents, and visitedHiccup, Astrid and their two children,Zephyr Haddock andNuffink Haddock, sail across the sea to visit Toothless, the Light Fury, their three offspringand Stormfly at the edge of the Hidden World; Hiccup vows that until mankind can coexist peacefully with dragons, the dragons will stay hidden while the Berkians guard their secret.

How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming[]

About a decade after Toothlessparted ways with Hiccup, he reminisces over the old times by drawing a picture of his rider in the sand.Dart, bored with the daily routines of living at the Hidden World, grows curious about the picture's origin.

One night, while their parents are sleeping, Dart convinces her brothers,Pouncer and Ruffrunner to sneak out ofthe Hidden World and fly to New Berk with her to learn more about their father's past.When Toothless and the Light Fury wake up, they panic upon realizing their children have left and fly off after them.

They arrive in New Berk as Hiccup and the otherVikingsare preparing for theSnoggletog Pageant. They manage to get close to Hiccup undetected (with Dart recognizing Hiccup from Toothless' picture), but they retreat upon seeing Hiccup's mechanical Toothlesspuppet, mistaking it for their father. They fly up to a cliff side after avoiding asheepgiving out their location.

On the cliff side, they run into their parents, who are angry at them for leaving the Hidden World. Before Toothless and the Light Furycan discipline them, the Snoggletog Pageant begins. Thedragonfamily decides to stay and watch the performance.

The pageant quickly turns chaotic whenGobberaccidentally lights the stage on fire. TheNight Lightswatch as their father rescues Hiccup from falling off a cliff and fills in for Hiccup during the show's climax, where Toothless teaches them about the bond dragons forged with the Vikings. Their family flies away shortly after Toothless meets Hiccup's daughter, Zephyr.

Before they leave, the family stops at theHaddock residence, where they eat a bowl Hiccup prepared with Toothless' favoritefishand leave behind a glowing crystal from the Hidden World as a gift. The Haddocks arrive home in time to watch Toothless, the Light Fury, and the Night Lights fly away from New Berk and back towards the Hidden World.

• The fact that the Light Fury and the Night Fury are closely related implies that dragons are members of 'families', likemany animals in real life (I.E., crocodiles, alligators, and caimans are all related through the crocodilian family).
  • Both species, in fact, seem to be in the same genus, like lions and tigers, as they are able to produce hybrid offspring.
