Selling Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Meet Penny (1)

Many families would love to have something freshly baked on Christmas morning but either lack the time or talent to mix up a batch of Pecan Cinnamon Rolls. So, the idea occured to me to offer to make them for my friends. The first time I posted that they were for sale, I got orders for 9 dozen!

So, here is my idea for you ~

  1. Test out the Pecan Cinnamon Rolls recipe. If you like it and it works well for you, consider selling them.
  2. Before allowing the rolls to do their final rise, freeze them, tightly wrapped. All your friends will need to do is let them thaw in the refrigerator overnight, set them out to rise on Christmas morning, and bake them until done.
  3. Tell your friends know via Facebook or Twitter or email or whatever that you will be selling the Pecan Cinnamon Rolls. (I am selling mine for $12 a dozen or $20 for two dozen.)

Depending on where you purchase your ingredients, you will make between $5 and $8 per dozen. (Since I had enough orders from the start, I purchased my ingredients in bulk at Sam’s Club.)

To package the rolls, place a piece of parchment paper in the bottom of an aluminum pan. Spray it with non-stick cooking spray and place the rolls on top. Lay another sheet of parchment across the top. Wrap the entire pan in alluminum foil and seal the edges. This should keep in the freezer for a couple of weeks. If it will be in the freezer longer than that, I recommend wrapping the entire panOVER the foil with plastic wrap. For best results, the rolls should be baked within one month.

Remember to attach the instructions and include a quart-sized freezer bag with the Cream Cheese Icing. I do not recommend freezing the icing.

I cut the rolls pretty big. My rolls are huge. I charge about $5.00 PER roll so for 6 its $30.00. That is the classic with cream cheese icing. If they want toppings like Butter Pecan or Strawberry Crunch, add $2.00 per roll. They are homemade and time consuming to make. I’ve seen people charge $10.00 for a homemade roll and pple pay.

Right on and good for you!
I’ve seen large homemade cinnamon rolls for $6 and people waiting in line to buy them- this was at a smaller city “farmers” market, rolls made by a mom. Don’t undersell yours 🙂
