Hello Omar,

that's a great question. The answer depends on wheter you use it as a subject or as a subject.

If you use it as the subject then it is "my friend and I". For example: My friend and I are going to the movies tonight.

If you use it as the object then it is "my friend and me". For example: Sarah invited my friend and me to the her barbecue next week.

Hope this helps! :)

Your lessons will be fun and memorable!

This is an infantile expression, you should quote the name of the person, and begin with a nice temporal clause, for example: 'The other day my friend Roberto and I were walking through central MIlan....'

The grammatically correct version should be the 1st one i.e "My friend and I" instead of "My friend and me" as both elements are of parallel position - Subject of a sentence.

A good way to understand this is to break the sentence into 2 sentences. For example:My friend and I went to the movies. You could say:My friend went to the movies. I went to the movies. Now try:My friend and me went to the movies. My friend went to the movies. Me went to the movies. (here you can clearly see that me is incorrect, you would not say me went to the movies, so you know to use my friend and I.)Another example:The dog took a walk with my friend and me. The dog took a walk with my friend. The dog took a walk with me. (here you can see that me is the correct word to use). Now try:The dog took a walk with my friend and I.The dog took a walk with my friend. The dog took a walk with I. (You can clearly see that I is not correct here).I hope this helps, I used this many times to help people understand.

Hello Omar,Just remember that''I' is a subject pronoun, for example, the person speaking is doing the action, alone or along with someone else ' My friend and I' ' and then when the person speaking is receiving the action of the verb, which would be, for example, ' My friend took me to the movies " me' is functioning as the object of the verb in this sentence.

"My friend and I" is correct. However, colloquial speech (where grammar rules are often broken), "my friend and me" is sometimes used. I do find that "My friend and I" is easier to say than "my friend and me".

Improve your spoken English!

Hi Omar, Almost everyone here has given you the grammatically correct explanation, so I won't talk about that. In spoken North America English, we are throwing (and have been throwing) our rules out the window for a long time now, and things are almost at the point where saying "My friend and I" sounds a bit awkward and too formal, especially among the younger generations! All this to say that in the spoken North American dialects, a sentence like "Me and some friends are going to see a movie." would sound fine and be 100% acceptable!

It is a problem of grammar and use of the language. For example, "and" is a conjunction, and after a conjunction we must use a personal pronoun, that is, "I" not "me". Nowadays it`s common to hear " you and me", but it`s wrong because "me" is an object pronoun and must be used after a preposition, a verb and so on.

Please note: Some answers have stated that "my friend and I" is always correct. This isn't accurate. Please read the answers that explain when to say, "my friend and I" or "my friend and me". These are both correct depending on the sentence. /// Something else to note is that one always puts the other person first. The friend always come first in a sentence.

Hello Omar,

it depends on what you want to say, how you continue your sentence. In some cases it is correct to say "my friend and me..." and in other cases, it is correct to say " my friend and me".

Depends on if "my friend and I" is a subject (who are doing the activity of the verbs) or an object (the activity is directed to them/is received by them).

Hope it helps :)

When to use

Hello Omar,

In situations where you have to talk about people and include yourself, you always need to put yourself last.

For example: Emil, James n I went to the club last night.=> My friend(s) and I went to the club last night.

'I' is used when you are involved in the action like in the example above while 'Me' is used when you are receiving the action.

For example: The trophy was given to my Friend (James) and Me for the best performance

But in any case, 'I' or 'Me' always comes after the other person involved.

I hope this helps.

Great question!

If you need a SUBJECT, then use: "My friend and I"Ex.My friend and I [subject] went to the shop yesterday.

If someone/something other than yourself is the subject of the sentence and you need an OBJECT, then use: "my friend and me"Ex.Our President [subject] shook hands with my friend and me.The car [subject] hit my friend and me last Friday.

If YOU are the subject of the sentence, and need an OBJECT, then use: "my friend and myself"Ex.I [subject] prepared lunch for my friend and myself.

And the order of these words: "me or myself" comes at the end (and other people come first)

Hope this helps!

Hi Omar, my comrades have said it all, just take caution when using it, whether it’s the subject or using as an object.

DO NOT FORGET, when using as a SUBJECT ( My friend and I)

As an OBJECT ( My friend and me).

Hope this summarises everything.

Hey,

The answer to your depends on the context. But a rule of thumb is: always 'you' at the end.For example: my friend and I / my friend and me.

So, use the first example as subject: My friend and I visited the palace yesterday.Use second as object: he invited my friend and me to the party.

Hope it helps!

Both are possible. "I" is a subject pronoun and "me" is an object pronoun. If you are not sure which one to use, take out the other other part and you will always choose the correct form too use.
