that's a great question. The answer depends on wheter you use it as a subject or as a subject.
If you use it as the subject then it is "my friend and I". For example: My friend and I are going to the movies tonight.
If you use it as the object then it is "my friend and me". For example: Sarah invited my friend and me to the her barbecue next week.

A good way to understand this is to break the sentence into 2 sentences. For example:My friend and I went to the movies. You could say:My friend went to the movies. I went to the movies. Now try:My friend and me went to the movies.My friend went to the movies. Me went to the movies. "My friend and I" is correct.However, colloquial speech (where grammar rules are often broken), "my friend and me" is sometimes used. I do find that "My friend and I" is easier to say than "my friend and me".

Hi Omar, Almost everyone here has given you the grammatically correct explanation, so I won't talk about that. In spoken North America English, we are throwing (and have been throwing) our rules out the window for a long time now, and things are almost at the point where saying "My friend and I" sounds a bit awkward and too formal, especially among the younger generations! All this to say that in the spoken North American dialects, a sentence like "Me and some friends are going to see a movie." would sound fine and be 100% acceptable!

It is a problem of grammar and use of the language. For example, "and" is a conjunction, and after a conjunction we must use a personal pronoun, that is, "I" not "me". In situations where you have to talk about people and include yourself, you always need to put yourself last.
For example: Emil, James n I went to the club last night.=> My friend(s) and I went to the club last night.
'I' is used when you are involved in the action like in the example above while 'Me' is used when you are receiving the action.
For example: The trophy was given to my Friend (James) and Me for the best performance
But in any case, 'I' or 'Me' always comes after the other person involved.
