But Kevin is more than just a mascot – he's a beloved friend to millions of people around the world. Kevin is also a marketing genius. His Christmas adverts for Aldi are some of the most popular and successful of all time. They've helped to make Aldi a household name and have boosted sales for the supermarket chain.

Kevin is an anthropomorphic carrot voiced by Clive Davis. In 2016, Kevin burst onto our TV screens as he made his way across a jam-packed Christmas dining table before clinging onto Santa's sleigh.

Inspired by the one left out by all the kids for Rudolph, we decided on something that is sold in every Aldi store for 3p/3c – a carrot – and so Kevin was born.

In 1962, they introduced the name Aldi—short for Albrecht-Diskont, which translates into English as "Albrecht Discount". Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd have been financially and legally separate since 1966. The individual groups were originally owned and managed jointly by the brothers.

We shortened "Albrecht Discount" to ALDI, and by 1968, we had more than 200 ALDI locations.

Both Aldi and Trader Joe's may be small in terms of the physical sizes of their stores, but they obviously please their customers — and they seem to be proving themselves as big trendsetters in the supermarket business. Both sister supermarkets have been expanding rapidly in recent years.
