The words for the pizza
A pizza is made of pâte (crust) and garniture (toppings) such as de la sauce tomate, du fromage (cheese), des champignons (mushrooms), de la viande (meat), des olives, de l’ananas (pineapple)… You can cut it en parts (in slices). We use the word croûte for the part of the pizza which has no sauce or toppings: just crust. You can add des suppléments to the existing toppings such as «extra olives», «extra meat», etc.
The most popular pizzas are: – la Royale: sauce tomate, fromage, jambon, champignons, olives – la Paysanne: lardons, oignons, crème fraîche – l’Hawaîenne: sauce tomate, fromage, jambon, ananas – la Reine: sauce tomate, fromage, jambon, champignons – la Margarita: sauce tomate, fromage – la 4 fromages: 4 fromages!
How to order a pizza in French
Here are the exact phrases to use when ordering a pizza.
You: Bonjour, je voudrais commander une royale s’il vous plaît.
You can choose à emporter (take away) or en livraison. (delivered to your place).

Could you leave me a name? Or a phone number? Should I slice it? would you like some hot sauce? Will you have a menu? Do you have a loyalty card? And to drink? Will you have some desert?
To order food, you can simply use the indefinite article un (masculine) or une (feminine) + the item. You would normally add s'il vous plaît ('please'), at the end of the sentence: Une soupe de poisson, s'il vous plaît.
State your order beginning with the size of the pizza, then the type of crust (if options are available).Follow that with the toppings you want, in no particular order. This is the easiest way for an employee to take down your pizza order. Read off your order if you wrote it down so that you don't miss anything.
L'impératif (the imperative) is used to give orders or advice to one or more people. The imperative only exists in the second person singular (tu), the first person plural (nous) and the second person plural (vous). The imperative is conjugated in the same way as the present tense, but the subject pronouns are omitted.
You've got your dough as the foundation. Then your sauce. The cheese is the next solid layer. Then your toppings (after all, they're called top-pings and not bottom-ings), and then finally your garnishes like basil, pepper, fresh mozzarella, etc, after the pizza is cooked.
The only people you'll hear using “voudrais” these days are foreigners eager to put their high school/college/Duolingo French to good use. While you can say “Je m'appelle [your name]” when meeting someone, the more colloquial way to do it is simply to say “Moi, c'est [name]”.
The best way to calculate how many pizzas you should order is by following the 3/8 rule. Each guest is likely to eat three pizza slices, and the average large pizza serves around eight slices. Remember to round up to get whole numbers and order more or less based on your party's needs.
