When taking out Protectivity Dog Walker Insurance you’ll be covered for the following as standard:

Public Liability

Choose between £1 million to £10 million worth of cover to protect your business against claims arising from injury to a member of the public or for damage to their property.

Key Cover

In the event that you lose a client’s keys, you are covered up to £10,000 for new keys, replacement locks, the cost of re-setting intruder alarms and associated call-out costs.

Care, Custody & Control

Up to £100,000 worth of cover is provided for the animals in your care (up to £25,000 per animal) in the instance of accidental loss, injury, illness or death of that animal in your care, custody or control or that of any of your staff.

Equipment Cover

As standard, we provide £250 worth of cover for your equipment against theft, loss and accidental damage, free of charge. You can increase the protection of your items up to the value of £30,000.

Q. Will my policy cover XL Bullies?

A. We are no longer able to cover XL Bullies under our Pet Business insurance for our customers based in England and Wales. This is due to their addition to the Dangerous Dogs Act. Our customers based in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Channel Islands will not be affected by this change, unless their respective governments also implement a ban.

Q. What insurance do I need as a dog walker?

A. As a dog walker, you will need public liability insurance to protect you should a member of the public get accidently injured or their property is damaged by you or the dogs that you walk. You will also need Care, Custody and Control to protect you for claims stemming from injury, illness, or accidental death of the animals in your care. Additional cover options that you might need include Employers’ Liability, Equipment Cover, Personal Accident and Professional Indemnity. Q. Why do I need Dog Walking Insurance?

A. You need Dog Walking Insurance because it will financially protect you against claims that could arise due to an accident whilst dog walking. If the dogs you are walking get injured, go missing or are killed, or a member of the public is injured by a dog in your care, dog walking insurance will cover compensation claims, vet bills and more.

Q. How many dogs can I walk?

A. Maximum of 6 dogs can be walked at any one time, this includes exercise off the lead. Should you employ any staff, they too can walk up to 6 dogs.

Q. Will I be covered if an animal in my care is stolen?

A. Yes, this will be covered under our Care, Custody and Control.

Q. What activities are included?

A.The pet business insurance policy is valid anywhere in the UK and covers the following business activities: dog walking, dog training, pet behaviourist, pet minding, sitting and boarding, pet taxi and transporting (UK only), grooming and microchipping.

Included within the grooming activities are; hand scissoring, clipping, wash and blow drying, hand-stripping, de-shedding, nail cutting, ear plucking and cleaning, and anal gland expression.

Q. What does close family extension cover?

A.If you employ any of the following members of your family, they too will be covered for Public Liability under your policy as standard. You do not need to take out Employers’ Liability to cover those family members either. If however, your business is a limited company and the family members are directors, the close family extension will not apply.

Family members included: Husband, wife, civil partner, father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, stepfather, stepmother, son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, stepson, stepdaughter, brother, sister, half-brother or half-sister.

Q. When do I get my insurance documents?

A.We will email your insurance details immediately after you purchase. Upon request, we can also issue a copy by post.
