I read a forum a little while ago, i forgot which one that you can cast a spell and one cantrip in a turn. So i was wondering if you could just cast two cantrips instead. And i was also wondering how would either of these would work.

You cannot cast two cantrips during one action. That's why many cantrips scale as you level.

To further explain what you read, if you cast a spell as a bonus action, you can only use your action to cast a cantrip.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/spellcasting#BonusAction
For example, there's a monster next to you. You use your bonus action to cast Misty Step to teleport 30 feet away. You then use your move action to get another 30 feet away. And finally you use your action to cast Fire Bolt, targeting the monster.

But, you're playing a Sorcerer. You can use the Quicken Spell Metamagic to cast a Cantrip as a bonus action and then use your regular action to cast another Cantrip.

Another popular way to be able to cast two spells a turn is to take two levels of Fighter for Action Surge.
Or convince your DM to give you a pair of Illusionist's Bracers!

As other's have pointed out, you can do this using the Quicken Spell Metamagic. Pair this with Eldritch Blast, which scales by player level-not class level, and you can see why sorcerer with a small multi class to warlock is so popular. At level 17, for the cost of just 2 lowly Sorcerer points, you can potentially do more damage than Disintegrate with a cantrip..... 8d10 + 40 Force damage.....with a cantrip.......that's an average of 95 force damage.....with a cantrip......just saying...

Sorry had to correct your math. 8d10+40 averages to 84 damage (90 average adjusted for crit probability). You can hex or curse your target to quickly raise that number though.

Ahh yes your right. For some reason my brain did 10d10. And to your point, if you add 8d6 for Hex, that's another 28 average necrotic damage. Very effective.

Eldritch blast is not eligible for twin spell at higher levels. It is capable of targeting more than one creature.

Nobody here is saying to twin spell eldritch blast. They're talking about Quicken Spell / Illusionist Bracers. My Homebrew: Races | Subclasses | Backgrounds | Spells | Magic Items | Feats

I am sorry. This was totally the wrong page :( It would have been twinnable anyway, if they only targeted one creature with it as it turns out. My bad.

Actually, no you were right. The restriction is based on whether the spell can, not whether you choose to do so, so yes at higher levels the cantrip cannot be twinned. My Homebrew: Races | Subclasses | Backgrounds | Spells | Magic Items | Feats

Why are you guys adding 40 extra force damage?? The damage from Eldritch Blast is 1d10 force damage, not 1d10 + Spellcasting mod. Also, that's assuming that you actually hit every single blast.

They're talking about a two level dip which is enough to get eldritch invocations as well as the cantrip. Get Agonising Blast to add your cha mod on each hit.My Homebrew: Races | Subclasses | Backgrounds | Spells | Magic Items | Feats

This is a slightly old thread, but I was wondering if you can cast 2 cantripsIF they have different casting times.
- Gust - 1 action
- Magic Stone - bonus action
Can my friend's Druid cast both on his turn?

Yes. The rule for casting any spell with a bonus action says that the only other spells you may cast that turn are cantrips with an action.

That's not accurate. The rule is you can only cast one leveled spell per turn except for Action Surge. Whether it's cast with a bonus action or action is irrelevant. So you can use your action to cast a Cantrip such as Eldritch Blast and then use your bonus action to cast a leveled spell such as Misty Step. Or you can use your action to cast a leveled spell such as Haste and then your bonus action to cast Shillelagh or Magic Stone. Or you could cast Haste and then use meta-magic Quicken Spell to cast any other Cantrip.

That is incorrect. Please review the section on Bonus Action spellcasting:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/spellcasting#BonusAction
If any spell is cast as a bonus action on your turn, all other spells must be a cantrip.

I highlighted the parts of your example that are specifically not allowed by the rules in red. The orange part is sort of accurate but requires additional explanation.
Technically, you can cast up to 3 leveled spells in 1 turn using action surge and your reaction. But if you cast any spell with a bonus action, you can only cast cantrips with your action and can't cast them with your reaction until the end of your turn.
