A refreshing summer with a Kidney-Friendly Watermelon | FKP (2024)

It’s almost summer—sunblock, towels, water, and that fantastic time of year when fresh produce abounds.

Chronic Kidney Disease and Dialysis patients are often hesitant to jump in and grab their favorite fruits and vegetables because they are concerned that it does not meet their Dietary Restrictions.

While they want the great nutrients from fruits and vegetables, patients can often feel their hands are tied due to the high potassium levels of various summer produce. Some foods may boost the performance of the kidneys, while others may place stress on them and cause damage.

Watermelon for CKD and Dialysis patiens

Watermelon (1 cup per day) is one of the good choices of fruits that most Chronic Kidney Disease and Dialysis patients can enjoy in the summer. Nutritionally, watermelon is a good source of vitamin C, beta carotene, and lycopene, a phytochemical with antioxidant activity.

When consumed in small portions, it is also low in potassium and naturally very low in phosphorus and sodium. We have created this quick and wholesome recipe for you to get refreshed this summer and feel the Watermelon Power.
