We're still fighting for beagles
An estimated 50 million animals, including beagles, are still being used in laboratories every year in the United States. Not only are the experiments unnecessary, but these animals live in filthy conditions and are typically killed when the experiment ends.
At the very least, animals in research laboratories deserve to receive basic care. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is tasked with inspecting regulated research laboratories once a year to ensure that cats, monkeys, rabbits and other animals at the lab are receiving care that meets the very basic standards of the Animal Welfare Act. But starting in 2019, USDA secretly stopped doing that very important job.
