October is Dyslexia Awareness month, a time to spread the word, share information, resources, and stories, and offer support. According to the International Dyslexia Association, Dyslexia is a neurological condition caused by a different wiring of the brain. There is no relationship between dyslexia and intelligence. And while those with individuals are neither more or less intelligent than the general population, it is often that the way those with dyslexia think and process information can be a benefit to achieving success (Dyslexiaida.org). 1. Albert Einstein
Often at the top of the list of historical figures with dyslexia, Albert Einstein, known for his brilliant mind, also struggled with delayed speech, language difficulties, and putting thoughts on paper. Despite this, his unique way of problem solving helped contribute to his high level of success in his field.
2. Eleanor Roosevelt
Always an outspoken advocate for human rights and racial equality, the longest- standing First Lady is also on the list of successful individuals with dyslexia. With her strong spirit, she went on to become a highly respected speaker and columnist.
3. Steve Jobs
The famous founder of Apple brought a lot of increased attention to dyslexia because of his celebrity-like status. Steve Jobs was also gifted and this combination resulted in one of the most innovative minds in recent times.
4. Leonardo Da Vinci
While there would have been no way of diagnosing and confirming this, it is often thought that Leonardo Da Vinci had dyslexia. Writing in reverse, inconsistent spelling, high levels of creativity and advanced thinking all lead people to believe he is part of this wonderful group.
5. Agatha Christie

7. Ann Bancroft
Ann Bancroft is the first woman to cross the North Pole on a dog sled and is considered a highly accomplished Arctic explorer. According to Bancroft, her dyslexia and dyslexic thinking aided her in her abilities to overcome challenges and think outside the box.
8. John Lennon
Considered one of the most successful and famous songwriters of all time, the lead singer of The Beatles had challenges with reading and spelling and was eventually diagnosed with dyslexia.
9. Whoopi Goldberg
Despite labeling herself as "abnormally slow" and facing adversity, Whoopi Goldberg has achieved great things in her career. She is one of 10 people to receive an Emmy, Oscar, Tony and Grammy award. She credits her mother's support with helping her to achieve great things in her career.
10. Cher
Cher, one of the world's most beloved musical icons, was diagnosed with both dyslexia and dysgraphia. When finally diagnosed, she began to receive the help and support she needed. Cher's child, Chaz Bono, also has dyslexia.
