What gives the drink known as Black cow its color?

Combine 1/2 cup of evaporated milk with 2 cups of root beer (your choice on the brand but we used A&W Root Beer for this particular one) and 2 ounces of your favorite bourbon. Mix then split between two tall co*cktail glasses. Add ice to fill the glass. Drizzle chocolate sauce on the top.

A “Black Cow,” as it's known in the Midwest, is a draught of root beer poured over scoops of ice cream in a tall glass mug, and is otherwise known on menus as a root beer float. It's a chilling, thirst-quenching, slightly spicy throwback to soda fountain days.

After a few conversations it was determined that while it may have different meanings in different areas, Black Cow is most commonly known as a root beer float that uses chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla. So today I give you my version of root beer flavored chocolate ice cream. The Black Cow.
Where did the term black cow come from?
Wisner, owner of Colorado's Cripple Creek Brewing, created the drink after realizing that the snowy peaks on Colorado's Cow Mountain reminded him of ice cream floating in soda. He combined root beer and vanilla ice cream, and called it the “Black Cow”, or more popularly known today as a root beer float.
The definition of a black cow varies by region. For instance, in some localities, a "root beer float" has strictly vanilla ice cream; a float made with root beer and chocolate ice cream is a "chocolate cow" or a "brown cow". In some places a "black cow" or a "brown cow" was made with cola instead of root beer.
Originally released back in the 1920s by Holloway, makers of Milk Duds, the Black Cow was just a chocolate covered Slo Poke (not that dissimilar from the Sugar Mama which was a chocolate covered Sugar Daddy.)

Traditionally a caramel dipped into chocolate, Black Cow was discontinued over two decades ago because the company that purchased the product did not have the ability to dip it into chocolate.

A Black Cow does not have ice cream, to a New Englander, any more than does a milk shake. Root beer and ice cream is a root beer float. A Black Cow is a delicious mixture of root beer and cold fresh milk. And as for a milk shake? That's just milk and syrup.
Pilk is when you mix Pepsi with milk. Most people have never heard of pilk, which is a shame because it's a true revelation. Pilk is responsible for broadening my expectations of what a soft drink can be. Pilk is creamy, lightly carbonated and sweet, with hints of citrus, cinnamon and vanilla.
Harry Normington Sr. invented the drink in the 1940s while working at a dairy in Vincennes. He moved to Indianapolis in 1944 and purchased a factory in the 2300 bock of Churchman Avenue on the southeast side and started producing and distributing Choc-ola.
