What do you call a woman in the military?
For the Army, only commissioned officers are referred to by sir or ma'am. The Marine Corps is the same and I believe the Navy, but in the Air Force everyone is addressed that way (if they outrank you). That said, if you are a woman who is a commissioned officer in the Army, you will be referred to by ma'am, constantly.
Female members of the United States Army are referred to simply as “females” when being addressed by gender.
Ma'am in passing when you don't actually know the officer. Name and Rank or Ma'am if you do. Name and rank especially if there are other officers around, especially if more than one female officer is there. A soldier would address a female officer by rank, followed by her last name.

The Army established the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in 1942, which was changed to the Women's Army Corps in 1943. Over 150,000 women served as WACs during World War II. In January 1943, Captain Frances Keegan Marquis became the first to command a women's expeditionary force, the 149th WAAC Post Headquarters Company.
Do soldiers refer to female military leaders as "sir" or "ma'am"? The standard is ma'am. Sir, is masculine traditionally so under UCMJ/ FM 22–5 the accepted term of respect for a female that outranks you is ma'am or to address them by their rank and avoid the entire issue such as “Yes, Captain Miller.”
"Ma'am" is the correct term to refer female officer in the military. Don't know why "Sir" is used a lot in Hollywood's movies & games. Technically, its either ma'am or sir, it depends on what the female officer prefers and it is common practice for her to say which one it is when it comes up.
All three are addressed as “Sir or Ma'am” (depending on their gender) when speaking directly to them either in person, on the phone, or in correspondence (email). If talking about them to another Soldier, they are addressed by their rank followed by their last name.
The best way to act around military women is simply not any different. Be yourself and be respectful. If you're the kind of person who opens doors for people, continue to do that. If you don't generally do that, finding ways to 'treat her like a woman' is not necessary.
The term "tag chaser" is sometimes used to refer to a person, usually a woman, who is romantically interested in members of the military.

The representation of women varies across the active duty components. Women are most represented in the Air Force (20 percent of the total enlisted force) and least represented in the Marine Corps (a little over 6 percent of the enlisted force).
Everyone in the Air Force is called an airman regardless of gender. The rules for addressing a USAF service member regardless of gender are: If you're addressing someone specifically, you state their rank and last name, like Airman Gomez, or Staff Sergeant Lee, or Captain Byers.
Today's military is much more integrated along gender lines than at any time in the past. Women are no longer excluded from any type of combat mission: They are pilots and vehicle drivers and mechanics and infantry officers.
What is the term used for a female United States Marine Corps (USMC) officer? “Ma'am” in all cases. Also: Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, and General are also terms used for female Marine Corps officers… as long as it matches that rank.

Additionally, since the late modern period, Sir has been used as a respectful way to address a man of superior social status or military rank. Equivalent terms of address for women are Madam (shortened to Ma'am), in addition to social honorifics such as Mrs, Ms or Miss.
Sir is for men. Most women would be offended if you called them sir (with the possible exception of some supreme feminists). Like John M. Landsberg commented, "Ma'am" is what you want to use unless you're asking for trouble.

Most men and women are faithful when called away from their homes and family to active service. For many of us out there, a commitment to family, country, and to our duty itself is more important than anything else. For us, there will never be a good enough reason to be disloyal.
Getting married to a US soldier is no different than getting married to a US citizen unless you and the soldier are out of the country. There are rules regarding the soldier marrying civilians in the area they are deployed to, but nothing that would cost either person money.
