Zettaflare is a powerful fire-based magic spell introduced in Kingdom Hearts III. Only Donald Duck has been seen using it.
Story[edit | edit source]
Kingdom Hearts III[edit | edit source]
Terra-Xehanort attempts to attack Kairi and Sora, having already attacked and defeated Ventus and Lea, but his attack is blocked by Goofy. Angered, Donald attacks Terra-Xehanort by casting Zettaflare, even as Goofy tells him not to. The attack seemingly obliterates Terra-Xehanort, but Donald is knocked unconscious as a result of using the attack.[1]
Appearance[edit | edit source]
When casting Zettaflare, Donald summons an enchanting circle on the ground surrounding him and focuses, then cast's the spell with his staff. A large, powerful beam of fire is emitted from the staff forward at whatever target Donald is pointing at. The spell lasts for several seconds before it fades out.
Origin and Development[edit | edit source]
The spell's name is constructed similar to attacks by the powerful Bahamut enemy from the Final Fantasy series, with a unit prefix from the metric system preceding the term "flare". The prefix zetta- is a unit prefix in the metric system denoting a factor of 1021. This suggests Zettaflare is more powerful than the most powerful spell in the Final Fantasy series at the time of Kingdom Hearts III's release, Exaflare, which has the unit prefix "exa-, denoting a factor of 1018
Other Appearances[edit | edit source]
Zettaflare appears during the thirty-fourth main quest in the 2023 Square Enix RPG title Final Fantasy XVI. In it, towards the end of a battle with the powerful Bahamut, Bahamut will cast Zettaflare.
