Yayoi Dojima (堂島 弥生, Dōjima Yayoi) is a character featured in Yakuza/Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza 2/Yakuza Kiwami 2. She is the wife of Sohei Dojima and mother of Daigo Dojima. She served as the interim chairwoman of the Tojo Clan in the absence of its Fifth Chairman.

Appearance[]
Yayoi is remarkably youthful looking in her late 40's. She has the appearance of a traditional Japanese woman, wearing a kimono and donning a shimada (geisha) hairstyle. She has a fair complexion and a beauty mark under her lips. In some occasions, she can be seen wielding a katana.
Attire[]
Yayoi is always seen wearing a purple kimono underneath a white haneri with white tabi socks and black zouri sandals. Her kimono is dark purple with a gold ura-eri, and designs of flowers near the bottom. She also wears an obi embroidered with designs of an ancient city, a gold obiage, and a gold obijime.
Personality[]
As the interim chairwoman of the Tojo Clan, she's a considerable force to be reckoned with, leading the clan through war threats from the Omi Alliance, and against the Jingweon Mafia's grudge. She is a remarkably loyal wife to the late Dojima patriarch, at one point even confronting the legendary Kiryu himself planning to avenge Sohei, but eventually relented. Her loyalty to her husband was also revealed when Koji Shindo pointed out that Dojima had many mistresses, and Yayoi replied acknowledging this to be true, but she was still always faithful to him nonetheless.
Background[]
Yayoi gave birth to her son Daigo around age 19, though it is unknown if she married Sohei Dojima before or after Daigo's birth. Sohei would frequently cheat on Yayoi, a fact she was aware of, but she still loved and was faithful to him. In the 1980's, she played an integral part in the Dojima Family's rapid rise to power, giving her support among the Tojo Clan's ranks.

Yayoi sets up an ambush in the Dojima Family Officefor Kazuma Kiryu, believing him to be responsible for her husband's death, but after he defeats the ambush and stands face to face with her, Yayoi then realizes that Kiryu in fact took the blame for another person and lethim go. By the next year, it becomes common knowledge that Kiryu took the blame for Akira Nishikiyama, the true murderer.

After Daigo, who had been expelled from the Tojo Clan, returns to Kamurocho following the completion of his prison sentence in 2006, he becomes a hedonist. Yayoi finds him in a bar and tries to straighten him out to no avail, him reprimanding her for only now acting like a mother. After leaving, Yayoi finds Kashiwagi wounded from an Omi Alliance attack. He tells her that he was looking for her after the Omi killed Terada. The attackers catch up, but the two are able to defeat their Kansai assailants.
Kashiwagi wants Daigo to become Acting Chairman with Terada dead, because he feels Daigo can bring the Tojo together in its current state. Yayoi instead suggests she become Acting Chairwoman instead, as she wants to give Daigo time to recover before putting such a heavy burden on him. She has enough support from the lower ranks, and recognition for helping the Dojima Family rise years ago, to not raise concerns over her taking over.
Yayoi finds Daigo again, and this time fights and defeats him to knock him out of his drunk stupor. She tells him she plans to become the Acting Chairwoman before leaving, not telling him her intent. Afterwards, Yayoi and Kashiwagi begin preparations for her ascension, and Kashiwagi vows to serve her as best he can.

Yakuza 2/Yakuza Kiwami 2: 2006-2007[]

Following the death of the Fifth Chairman of the Tojo Clan, Yukio Terada, Yayoi becomes its Acting Chairwoman. Trusting him, she tasks Kiryu with delivering Terada's request for peace to the leader of the Omi Alliance, but this is rendered moot thanks to the war declared on the Tojo Clan by a splinter faction led by Ryuji Goda, which is compounded by the Jingweon Mafia's attacks on the Tojo Clan.
During the Tojo Clan's own coup led by Nishikiyama Family Second Patriarch Koji Shindo, Yayoi is personally taken prisoner by Shindo who wants to make her his own and his lover. Yayoi defies him, declaring her loyalty to her late husband, in spite of Shindo pointing out that he had many mistresses. She is eventually saved by Kiryu, Daigo and Osamu Kashiwagi.
By 2007, Daigo becomes the Sixth Chairman of the Tojo Clan, and Yayoi retires.
