"Dessert" = sweet food that you eat at the end of a meal. At a restaurant, you order when you are finished with your main food.
"Snack" = small food (salty or sweet) that you eat between meals.
For example, you get a bit hungry at 3PM, but you can't eat a full meal because you want to have dinner later. You eat some snacks instead.
