What is a wetting agent?

Wetting Agents reduce surface tension between materials in soil & water enabling water to spread through the soil more easily for medium term protection.

When applied wetting agents for lawns can help improve moisture levels throughout the soil profile and encourage healthy growth.

Wetting agents can also be beneficial for plants so their roots can absorb nutrients and water from the soil more efficiently.

Lastly they are a known preventative and curative substance for dry patch where ground can start to repel water and cause grass to go brown and die

What are the benefits of using a wetting agent?

There are many benefits to using a wetting agent on your lawn and plants, including:

  • improved moisture levels throughout the soil profile
  • encourages healthy growth
  • beneficial for plants
  • prevents and cures dry patch

From my experience I also find it can help with excess water on the lawn to a certain extent too, it won’t fix a bad draining soil but it can help to move heavy rainfall off the surface of the lawn into the root zone

How often you should use a wetting agent?

To get the best results, we recommend applying a wetting agent once a month during the growing season (March-October) and more often if needed due to drought or dry patch.

If the lawn is showing signs of drought, water stress or dry patches then a wetting agent application can be applied twice within a two week period as an initial treatment.
