Vegan Oreo Truffle Balls - My Life After Dairy (1)

There is no denying my love for all things Oreo. From no bake mini tarts to Oreo Fudgesicles, I love using Oreos in desserts. When I went dairy-free one of the things I struggled with was the vast amount of pre-made desserts loaded with dairy. Butter, milk, cream, and more made buying pre-made desserts a tricky task. So when I realized Oreos were still among the dairy-free treats I could buy and enjoy, you better believe I ran with it!

While they are not the healthiest treat on the market, they are definitely one of the most addictive. Paired with a cold glass of oat milk, a fresh Oreo just can’t be beat…. or can it?

These Oreo truffle balls take everything you love about an Oreo and elevates them into a creamy bite-sized treat coated in chocolate.

Why We LOVE these Oreo Truffle Balls

You probably don’t need a reason to love something made with Oreos. But if you are wondering why you should break out your package of Oreos and crank out a tray of these truffle balls, here are just a few of our top reasons to love them.

  • No bake. No oven, no stove, just a little zap in the microwave and these babies are all yours!
  • 4 Ingredients. Keeps it nice and easy.
  • Can be decorated to fit the season. Think pink and white sprinkles for Valentines day, red and green for Christmas, and even a little orange, black and purple for Halloween. These truffles are easily adaptable.
  • Hand-held dessert. Seriously two bites if you put your mind to it.

How to Make Vegan Oreo Truffles

Ingredients You’ll Need

With just four ingredients, you are well on your way to making these highly addictive truffle balls.

  • Oreo Cookies- You can use regular or double-stuffed Oreos for this recipe. If you are following a gluten-free diet, feel free to sub with the gluten-free Oreos.
  • Dairy-Free Cream Cheese– I have used Kite Hill as well as the store-brand cream cheese alternative at Kroger and found them to both work well in this recipe.
  • Dairy-Free Chocolate– Semi-sweet dairy-free chocolate melted with coconut oil coats the exterior of these truffles.
  • Coconut Oil– Thins out the chocolate to make it easier for dipping and provide a smooth exterior.

Decorating Oreo Truffle Balls

I will be the first to tell you that the first few batches of Oreo truffles did not look nearly as nice as the ones you see before you today. Here are a few tips for getting a good dip and adding finishing touches to these Oreo Truffles.

  • Allow the balls to chill first. I found that putting the tray in the freezer for about 30 minutes before dipping helped the chocolate stick to the balls and solidify quickly so it didn’t pool down the sides.
  • Sprinkle toppings while the balls are still wet so they stick.
  • Drizzle with a second layer of chocolate after the initial coat of chocolate solidifies.

The Perfect Chocolate Coating

  • Use a fork and spoon to coat the balls:
  • Place a truffle ball on the fork. Do not stab the fork into the truffle, simply place it on top of the fork.
  • Lower the fork into the melted chocolate mixture.
  • Use the spoon to pour chocolate over the tops and sides of the truffle ball.
  • Do not roll the ball in the chocolate, simply scoop and cascade the chocolate over the ball.
  • Lift the truffle out of the chocolate and tap the excess chocolate off the side by scraping the base of the fork to the side of the bowl. Repeat a few times for each ball.
  • Get a knife and guide the truffle ball off the fork and onto the parchment paper lined baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle with any toppings you want to stick like sprinkles or cookie crumbs.
  • Return the tray to the refrigerator or freezer to allow the chocolate to set.

Storing Vegan Oreo Truffle Balls

There are two ways you will want to store these truffle balls, in the refrigerator or in the freezer.

  • Refrigerator– Vegan Oreo truffles will keep in the refrigerator for up to 7 days in an airtight container.
  • Freezer– When stored in a freezer-safe container, these truffle balls will keep up to 3 months (assuming you don’t sneak one every hour on the hour).
