There’s A Scientific Reason McDonald's Cola Tastes So Much Better (2024)

I know for a fact that I'm not the only person that’s noticed McDonald’s Coca-Cola tastes a million times better than any other co*ke.

And before you ask, yes, it is 100% Coca-Cola, so it’s not some magic even-better-than-co*ke beverage that gets pumped out in Maccas.

So, what is it that makes it hit different? Well, apparently, it has a lot to do with the size of the straws. No… really.

TikTok user and former McDonald’s employee @evilglitterqueen (also known simply as Michael) revealed that the straws at McDonald’s are made to be a certain length and width so more bubbles hit your tongue when you drink it, and that makes it taste better.

Woah.

Michael, who lives and worked in a US branch of Maccas, was replying to someone’s request for employees of larger companies to share insider information from their job when the straw secret came out.

Michael started the video by saying, “I worked at McDonald’s and I learned so much s**t. You think that they’re just fast food and s**t but there’s so much science behind it.

“For example, your straw at McDonald’s is larger - do you know why it’s larger? Because it lets more carbonation hit your tongue and makes the soda taste better.

“That’s why it’s better at McDonald’s.”

The McDonald’s US website confirms the straw thing, and also adds that the co*ke syrup is pre-chilled before it’s added to the drinks machines; adding to the amazing flavour.

In a FAQ section of the website, the answer to “Why does the Coca-Cola taste so good at McDonald’s?” reads: “The water and Coca-Cola syrup are pre-chilled before entering our fountain dispensers with the ratio of syrup set to allow for ice to melt. We also keep our fountain beverage system cold, so your drink is always refreshing. In order to ensure our drinks are always meeting a gold standard, we filter all the water before it enters fountain dispensers.

“There’s also our straw — it’s slightly wider than a typical straw so all that co*ke taste can hit your taste buds.”

So there you have it!
