The Trader Joe’s Item You Should Be Stocking Up On — RIGHT NOW (1)

Among the short list of ingredients I always have stocked in my freezer, puff pastry ranks high at the top. It’s a good thing to have on hand to turn out fast and fancy appetizers like baked brie and cheesy pinwheels — and it makes for quick savory dinner tarts and bakery-worthy breakfast treats. So it’s totally worth having a couple of boxes on hand at all times.

The best-tasting frozen puff pastry is made with all butter, rather than a mix of butter and shortening or another fat, but unfortunately, that can come at a cost. Leave it to Trader Joe’s to solve the problem: I am obsessed with their puff pastry — because it’s made with all butter and tastes amazing, and because it’s only $3.99.

The one drawback is that it’s a seasonal item — but guess what? It’s back in stores right now!

Stock Up on Trader Joe’s Frozen Puff Pastry ASAP

TJ’s gets its frozen puff pastry from a French supplier and it’s made with layers and layers of butter and dough, so you know it’s going to be good. While other all-butter frozen puff pastry costs $10 or $11 a box, this one costs $3.99. Oh, and the box has two (two!) pastry sheets in it, while the more expensive kinds typically only have one.

Like many of their items, however, Trader Joe’s doesn’t stock this stuff year-round. It’s released in the fall and is stocked through the holiday season — but because it has such a fan following, it can sometimes sell out by Thanksgiving. That means the time to stock up is now!

My annual routine: As soon as I see it in the freezer case, I buy several boxes. That way I’ll have it on hand for holiday entertaining and, ideally, until it comes back in stock. Although, let’s be honest, I always end up baking off all those buttery sheets well before spring hits.
