There is no king lion and they don't live in jungles.
From the Nemean lion slain by Hercules to Maahes the lion-headed Egyptian god of war, the timeless image of a lion has inspired myths the world over. Along with the species' starring roles in human legends, the lion has collection a few myths of its own over the years. Here are a few of those tall tales and the truth behind the myths.
There is no 'Lion King'
Despite what Disney's classic movie would have you believe, prides don't have a Mufasa or Simba in charge of all other lions (or all other African animals for that matter). Rather than a king or queen, lions live in a egalitarian society without ranking.
Lions have famously acquired the title of ‘King of the Jungle’. However, the title is a little misleading as lions don’t actually live in jungles (and as we found out earlier, they don't have kings!). Their habits include scrubland, grasslands, savannahs and rocky hills, but not jungles. This is a simple case of lost in translation.
The word jungle has its roots is the Hindi word ‘jangle’ which means forest or wasteland - the latter could easily be applied to a savannah. The lion’s other title of ‘King of beasts’ won’t be disputed here. If you’d like to challenge it, please take the matter up with your nearest lion.
Albi-NO
White lions have been regarded as sacred animals across Africa and there is a common misconception that they are albinos. While albino lions do exist, white lions are a separate subset of lions. White lions have a regressive mutation called Leucism and this means they have a reduced volume of melanin – the pigment that controls the colour of the lion’s fur and eyes. In fact, the colour of the eyes is the way to differentiate between white lions and albino lions. White lions have blue eyes while albino lions have a red or pink colouring.
Mane means successful male
A lion’s mane is usually seen as a way of calculating the sexual appeal of a lion to potential mates. The more voluminous the mane, the greater the appeal of the male. However, recent evidence refutes this as a universal rule. Maneless male lions in Tsavo were shown to be able to attract mates as well as being able to successfully defend a territory against other males.
Manes don’t always mean male as well. Mane lionesses have been observed, particularly in the Okavango Delta in Botswana. These lionesses engage in activities normally associated with male lions and have a greater probability of being infertile.
Pulling his own weight
The common perception of a lion pride is that the female lions do all the hunting. However, emerging evidence suggests that isn’t completely true. The primary role of the lioness is to hunt, whereas the lion guards the territory, but lions are able to hunt for themselves. Not only that, but research suggests that the success rates of both sexes is roughly equal.
Inspired by African wildlife, the story is modelled primarily on William Shakespeare's stage play Hamlet with some influence from the Biblical stories of Joseph and Moses, and follows a young heir apparent who is forced to flee after his uncle kills his father and usurps the throne.
The Nemean Lion was a fearsome creature in ancient Greek mythology. His skin was impervious to all weapons, he had powerful claws, and he was very cunning. According to some versions of the story, the goddess Hera had him guard the temple of Zeus in Nemea so that worshippers would be afraid and stay away.
In real life, the characters in the movie weren't animals. They were real African heroes and people who played important roles in the lives and freedom of West Africans. “The Lion King” is really about the story of the great human African king, Sundiata Keita, known as The Lion of Mali.

Mufasa and Simba represent both God and Jesus in various ways. Like Jesus, Mufasa is killed as a result of betrayal by someone close to him. Simba's subsequent exile also invokes the imagery of the crucifixion when he runs through thorn bushes, similar to the crown of thorns Jesus donned.

Slay the Nemean Lion. Heracles defeated a lion that was attacking the city of Nemea with his bare hands. After he succeeded he wore the skin as a cloak to demonstrate his power over the opponent he had defeated.
Phobos often is depicted as having a lion's or lion-like head. This may be seen in Description of Greece by Pausanias, "On the shield of Agamemnon is Phobos (Fear), who[se] head is a lion's…".
Instead, Scar cruelly pounces on Mufasa's paws with his claws, leans in and mockingly says "Long live the king." before throwing his brother off the cliff. Mufasa falls back into the gorge and is trampled to death by the stampeding wildebeest.
While Simba was still a cub, Scar plotted against Mufasa and used a wildebeest stampede to endanger Simba's life. After saving Simba from the stampede, Mufasa climbed up the side of a gorge, only to be thrown to his death by Scar.
One day, on a solo patrol, Askari encountered a mysterious lion, who suggested that Askari should be the King of the Pride Lands instead of Mufasa; a thought that intrigued Askari. However, the lion led him to a trap where a cobra bit his left eye, giving him his infamous scar as well as poisoning Askari's mind.
Maahes (also spelled in Greek: Mihos, Miysis, Mios, Maihes, or Mahes) (Greek: Μαχές, Μιχός, Μίυσις, Μίος, or Μάιχες) was an ancient Egyptian lion-headed god of war, whose name means "he who is true beside her".

The Lion King The Lion King and the story of Osiris are very similar. Just like in the story of The Lion King, Osiris is the ruler of the land, with his wife by his side, and an evil brother, named Set. Set tricks his brother into getting into a chest, for whoever fits it perfectly wins.
In fact, “The Lion King's storyline is also influenced by William Shakespeare's Macbeth” (The Lion King). Both stories contain the plot of seizing the throne by a conspirator, the death of the king, the fleeing of origin descendant of the throne, and a victorious revenge at last.
