Conventional Palm Oil causes Deforestation and that has many negative effects on the environment. The most dramatic impact is a loss of habitat for millions of animals. Without vital habitat they can't survive and this is pushing many species to the edge of extinction.
Deforestation also drives climate change. Forest soils are moist and without protection from the sun with tree cover they quickly dry out. Trees also help perpetuate the water cycle by returning water vapor back into the atmosphere. Without trees to fill these roles, many former forest lands can quickly become barren deserts.
Palm Oil is used in over 50% of all products in America from Cereal, Snack Foods, Shampoo, Make Up, Peanut Butter and even American's Favorite Cookie, Oreo.
Yes, it is true, palm oil is one of the ingredients in Oreo Cookies. And, like some other American companies, they don't have any idea where their palm oil is sourced.
Wouldn't you expect if Americans are buying that many Oreo cookies they would want to be sure they were not driving Orangutans, Sumatran Tigers, Pygmy Elephants, Sumatran Rhinos, Gibbons and many other endangered animals to extinction.
