Türkiye recognized Ukraine’s independence on 16 December 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 3 February 1992. Relations between Türkiye and Ukraine gained the status of strategic partnership, with the establishment of High Level Strategic Council (HLSC) in 2011. In order to strengthen economic and humanitarian ties, passport-free regime between Türkiye and Ukraine was put into force on 1 June 2017. Trade volume between Türkiye and Ukraine in 2019 amounted to 4.8 billion US Dollars (2,09 billion US Dollars exports from Türkiye, 2.72 billion US Dollars imports from Ukraine). Investments by approximately 600 Turkish firms operating in Ukraine stands at 3 billion US Dollars (including investments through third countries). The total value of projects undertaken by Turkish construction firms is worth 6,28 billion dollars. Tourism constitutes an important area of cooperation between Türkiye and Ukraine. The number of Ukrainian tourists who visited Türkiye in 2019 is 1 million 600 thousand. Türkiye has an Embassy in Kiev, a Consulate-General in Odesa and Honorary Consulates in Simferopol (vacant) and Kharkiv. Ukraine has an Embassy in Ankara, a Consulate-General in Istanbul and Antalya, Honorary Consulates in Mersin (vacant), İzmir(vacant), Bursa, Çanakkale, Dalaman.
