Quad Bike Insurance Quotes Online, Farm & Off Road ATV Cover Cost | Carole Nash (2024)

Do I need quad bike insurance?

Yes. Government regulations were introduced in 2011 (PDF 746KB) which stated all quad bike owners must be covered by an appropriate policy, in an attempt to crack down on uninsured motorists.

Without adequate cover you could still be fined, even if your quad bike is not in use. The only exception to this rule is if you have declared your ATV off the road with a Statutory Off-Road Notification.

What comes as standard with a quad insurance policy?

Which level of quad bike cover should I choose?

There are three different levels of quad bike cover, and it’s important that you choose the one that’s most suited to your needs. They are:

  • Third-party only
  • Third-party, fire and theft
  • Comprehensive

Third-party only

This is the most basic level of ATV insurance and offers the minimum degree of protection. You will be insured against the vehicle or property of a third party becoming damaged as a result of an accident that was your fault, but there is no cover for fire, theft, or damage suffered by your quad.

Third-party, fire and theft

A policy of this kind offers the same protection as third-party only, but your quad will also be covered in the event of it being stolen or suffering fire damage.

Comprehensive

A comprehensive policy offers protection against any damage to a third party’s vehicle or property, as well as for fire, theft or accidental damage suffered by your ATV.

Why would my quad insurance not pay out?

There are some circ*mstances which may mean your quad bike insurance is invalidated. These include but are not limited to any liability, accident, injury, loss, or damage that occurs when the quad is:

  • In the charge of someone not entitled to ride it, as described by the certificate of insurance
  • Ridden by someone who does not possess the appropriate licence
  • Being used to carry passengers or goods in a way that is likely to affect its safe driving

These are just some of the instances where you are unlikely to be protected by your quad bike insurance. For a full list of the exclusions, please check your policy wording.

Quad bike insurance FAQs

Below, we’ve answered some of the questions we get asked mostoften regarding quad insurance:

The cost of your ATV insurance will vary depending on a number of factors, such as its make and model, the size of its engine and what you are using it for. However, there are a few things you can do to reduce the cost of your cover, such as:

  • Keep your quad locked up in a secure facility such as a shed or garage
  • Keep your quad bike insurance in place all year round to build up your no-claims bonus
  • As much as possible, limit the number of miles you cover on your quad throughout the course of the year

We believe in taking care of everything for our customers, which is why we can offer you key cover as an optional extra on top of your quad insurance. For just £20.99 a year, all keys attached to the fob are covered if they are lost or stolen, while you’ll also be protected for up to £1,500 of locksmith charges, new locks and keys, car hire or onward travel costs.

This will depend on your insurer and your level of cover. All of our quad bike insurance policies allow you to ride in the EU for up to 30 days with the same protection you would receive here in the UK. The length of time you can ride abroad may vary depending on your insurer, and if you wish to take your quad on the road outside the European Economic Area then you’ll also need to acquire a Green Card.

If you choose to receive your quad insurance documents via email, they should land in your inbox within 24 hours. If you want us to post them, that could take up to five working days. Should you need any duplicate copies, just let us know and we can send those to you as well.
