Predator - Aliens vs. Predator: Extinction Guide - IGN (2024)

Mission One Mission Two Mission Three Mission Four
Mission Five Mission Six Mission Seven

Strengths: Whereas the humans focus on range combat, the Predators like things better up close and personal. Virtually all the units are good melee fighters. Of course, they aren't slouches in range battles either, especially not the Stalker, who is the best sniping unit in the game. Add in stealth capability and the very powerful shrines and you've got a pretty tough team. Perhaps the most useful Predator attribute, though, is the ability to instantly send reinforcements, whereas the Humans and especially the Aliens have to wait for theirs.

Weaknesses: The Predators main weakness is in its numbers. Their population limit is never much larger than a couple dozen, and when you add in the fact that the shrine itself counts as four pop points, you've got a pretty small team. Furthermore, their stealth can be defeated pretty easily with simple vision upgrades when playing as humans or predators, and many of their units, the shrine in particular, are painfully slow.

Tips
  • The Stalker is your best friend for scouting. He's able to fire at most enemies long before they see him, and the enemies typically just stand around as they're shot to death. One can often go through a whole level using this technique.
  • Once the battles get bigger, use the Hydra and Blazer. They may take two pop points, but when upgraded they're far more than twice as powerful as anybody else. There's virtually nothing that four or five of these guys can't handle.
  • If you're going to take the time to try and make a formation, put a couple of Vanguards in the front, then Hydras and Blazers, then Stalkers and Disc Masters.
  • Always try to keep a few honor points stashed away, in case you get ambushed. This way, you can call reinforcements immediately to replace those who've died.
  • It's important to gather skulls after every fight, but wait until you're sure that the coast is clear. Predators gathering skulls are often completely oblivious to being shot at.
  • It may be slow, but you're best off if you take the Shrine along with you at all times. It's firepower is useful, and it's always nice to be able to call in reinforcements where you actually need them. Just remember that you can't select as part of a large group of predators. Instead, highlight all the predators, then add the shrine to the group manually.
  • Don't neglect to have your predators heal themselves. You should never let your energy drop below 100 before you drop your stealth and let it recharge. This way, you've always got a spare hundred points of health that you can give your Predator if he needs it.
  • After the first few missions, ditch the Hunter and Brawler. They're practically useless against tougher enemies, and those population points would be better used with just about anyone else.
  • Be sure to buy vision abilities as soon as you know what you're fighting. If you see a human, buy the vision that lets you see them outside normal range right there. Same goes for the Aliens. If you can't figure out who is attacking you, buy the Predator vision and your assailant will likely appear.
