Investigating the neurochemical profile and the behavioural effects after both acute and repeated NEP exposure indicates that NEP consumption induces different neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders accompanied by changes in the monoaminergic system, posing a threat to public health.

It is shown that DA increased more significantly than 5‐HT, indicating a large potential for NEP abuse, and over 90% of plasma NEP was potentially distributed to the brain, indicating large and long‐lasting effects.

Mphedrone, administered alone at the dose not affecting locomotor activity of mice, enhanced the expression of nicotine-induced locomotor sensitization and decreased general antioxidant status and catalase activity as well as antioxidant enzymes activity in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex.

It is indicated that amphetamine mixtures produce deleterious effects, even when individual drugs are combined at negligible concentrations, and these effects are strongly exacerbated in hyperthermia, emphasizing the potential increased risks of ecstasy intake, especially whenhyperthermia occurs concurrently with polydrug abuse.

Pharmacological characterization of the synthetic cathinone, 3,4-methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV; commonly referred to as a “bath salt”), is critical for understanding the abuse liability and neurotoxic potential of this and related agents and contributes to a growing pharmacological rubric for evaluating the ever-growing list of designer Cathinone-related stimulants.
