Noom, a recently re-trending weight loss program, uses words and phrases such as “psychology” and “take control of their health for good” in its marketing. Sounds pretty convincing and tempting, right? It sounds like the anti-diet to end all dieting.

But it’s not.

In fact, Noom is a diet that has contributed to many people’s eating disorders. It promotes unhealthy patterns of thinking that psychologists and registered dietitians are vehemently against.

But what does that have to do with marketing?

In an article for Cosmopolitan, Kelly Hoover Greenway shared how Noom wrecked her relationship with food and triggered her eating disorder.

“Almost two years later, I’m still in recovery from the app, trying to undo damaging behaviors I developed as a direct result of its programming,” she wrote.
