Description:

The waterlogged areas of the excavation at Whithorn uncoveredpreserved 'sheets' of moss, which had been discarded. Closeranalysis revealed them to be studded with fragments of hazel nutshells, and blackberry pips. In keeping with similar findsfrom York, these may represent 'sheets' used to clean up after avisit to a latrine pit.
