What is considered a Jedi? ›

The Jedi are first introduced in the 1977 motion picture Star Wars as an order of warrior monks who serve as "the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy" and embrace the mystical Force.

A noble order of protectors unified by their ability to tap into the power of the Force, the Jedi Order were the guardians of peace and justice in the Galactic Republic. The age of the Jedi would end, however, due to a nefarious plot by the Sith Lord Darth Sidious.

The term “Jedi” itself came from the Japanese “jidai-geki” meaning period drama, while super-nasty Darth Vader's costume and helmet were inspired by Japanese warlords' uniform and headwear.

To be a Jedi was to live a life of selflessness and devotion to the light side of the Force. The Jedi Knights focused on calmness and peace to channel their powers in the Force, using the light side of the Force to serve in the capacity of guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy.

In the Jedi Order, emotional attachment and possession were forbidden because it was believed they could lead to jealousy and fear of loss, and ultimately the dark side of the Force; for that reason, Jedi were not allowed to marry.

Although the 2002 film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones established that the Jedi Order members couldn't marry or have children, Star Wars creator George Lucas explained that despite their monastic culture, the Jedi were permitted to have sexual intercourse as long they didn't form attachments or possessive ...

The Jedi in the early stages of their period were thought to be "good" and "peacekeepers" but that wasn't the case. The Jedi were committing genocides on innocents such as the Kaleesh Slaughter and abducting children and forcing them to become a Jedi in their fight against their more villainous counterparts, the Sith.

Legend had it that Yoda—a Jedi who became Grand Master—was trained by N'Kata Del Gormo. A Force-sensitive Hysalrian, N'Kata Del Gormo was trained in the ways of the Force and achieved the rank of Master within the Jedi Order.

In both canon and Legends, the Jedi Order forbade marriage for much of its history. In the new canon, the High Republic-era Jedi may have been allowed to form romantic relationships and marry, but this fell out of practice sometime before the prequels.

With the exception of Anakin Skywalker, prospective Jedi were identified a short time after birth by the quantity of midi-chlorians in their blood, a factor which indicated the level of a subject's Force-sensitivity. Many of these children were listed within Jedi holocrons before being identified by the Order.

What is the opposite of a Jedi? ›

The opposite of the Jedi are the Sith, who follow the Dark side of the Force (using the force for evil).

Jedi must always cooperate in battle or crisis. Jedi must not have wants; self-reliance must be shown. Jedi are forbidden from ruling others, although by the end of the Republic there was some debate over whether or not this was part of the actual Code. A Jedi Master may not have more than one Padawan.

Though only certain individuals were Force-sensitive, the Force resided within all living things. As such, Ahsoka Tano stated that anyone, with enough time and focus, could learn to harness the Force.

Through most of the Jedi's history, Padawans were personally selected by their masters. Masters on the Jedi Council infrequently took a Padawan due to their responsibilities, but several did over the generations. In the later years of the Republic, Padawans could also be designated by the Council.

Anyone can become a Jedi, regardless of Force-sensitivity. The Church of the Force and Guardians of the Whills respect and revere Jedi without being Force-sensitive. The Jedi Order consists of different ranks, and in the past, there were additional paths like Jedi Counselors and Jedi Guardians.

A Jedi must have a permanent sense of mindfulness and connection with the Force, and experience is one of the greatest teachers in the galaxy.

History. A dark side warrior with a mysterious past, Kylo Ren was neither Jedi nor Sith, but a product of both sides' teachings. Once an apprentice of Luke Skywalker's, he killed his fellow students and drove Skywalker into exile, becoming a First Order warlord and servant of Supreme Leader Snoke.

A Jedi seeks not adventure or excitement, for a Jedi is passive, calm, and at peace. A Jedi knows that anger, fear, and aggression lead to the dark side. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack. There is no "try," only "do." Believe and you succeed.
