Peanut butter is usually OK for stage 3 CKD. A 2 tablespoon serving of peanut butter can be a great addition to your daily eating pattern. 2 Tbsp of creamy peanut butter provide: 188 calories, 7 gm protein, and 189mg of potassium. However, many times we eat more than the recommended 2 Tbsp which can lead to unintended calories and potassium. Also, many peanut butter producers add extra salt and sugar. When buying peanut butter look for a low or no salt added or a “just peanuts” style of jarred peanut butter. But overall peanut butter in moderation can be part of a healthy stage 3 CKD eating pattern.
