“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV)

Trusting God in all circ*mstances, even during a difficult season of waiting on his timing, is possible even though it might not feel that way.

You can be assured of this because there are many examples of trusting God in the Bible. You are not different from the people in the Bible. God’s plans are the best for you, too (Jeremiah 29:11).

The benefits of trusting God for his timing will lead you to have great, unshakeable peace, grow your patience and perseverance, and allow you to see more of the goodness of God. You’ll be able to get through anything, making you stronger in him.

Your faith will grow and your desire to follow him will too, when you see his goodness at all times. The outcome of the trusting might not look like what you think or what you want but he promises it will be better than you can imagine.

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…” (Ephesians 3:20, NIV)

1. God Is Trustworthy

Sometimes in waiting for God’s timing, you can complain. The more you do this, it can make you feel hopeless.

But God is trustworthy all the time. Knowing this truth is the first step in how to trust in God completely.

“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.” (Psalm 145:13, NIV)

When you know who God is and remember how he has always been trustworthy throughout your life, you can trust him now in the waiting. You can always count on him, no matter how impossible things may feel.

He has never let you down in fulfilling his promises of having good plans for you… and it’s no different in this situation. This is one of the many reasons to trust God.

Trust God’s timing, it’s the best. Recall what he has done for you. Memorize scriptures on how he is trustworthy when you are doubting. Look to the Bible to find stories about how he has been trustworthy and kept his promises. God is trustworthy—this will never change.

2. Know God’s Heart and Intentions for You

The second step in how to trust in God completely is to acknowledge God’s heart for you.

“However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’—the things God has prepared for those who love him—these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:9-10, NIV)

God has such good plans for you—when you trust in his timing you will receive them. When you know his heart for you, you can trust God. His heart is always of love for you and he will never do anything to hurt you.

Waiting on his timing may be hard, but it is for your best. As you are waiting, he will comfort you. He is changing you and growing you. He is with you and will never leave you.

His timing ensures that all things will be worked out. He sees it all and knows it all. His intentions, thoughts, and desires are always to give you the best. He never thinks or wishes you ill. God is a good Father who loves you more than anything and always wants to give you, his precious child, an abundant life.

Trust God by remembering his heart for you. You can do this by staying in the Bible. His word shows you how much he adores his people.

3. Surrender

When you are waiting for something to happen in God’s timing, you shouldn’t try to make it happen on your own. Thus, the next step in how to trust in God completely is to relinquish the outcome of what you are waiting on God for. Give him all control; do nothing but press into him.

“Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.” (Psalm 9:10, NIV)

Finally, when you are choosing to trust in God completely you need to be patient.

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” (Romans 12:12, NIV)

God’s timing is perfect and he will bring about what you are waiting on him for. Place your hope in him to be patient in the hard moments.

Keep praying. Don’t try to rush it, because the journey to the destination is so important and God has good lessons and gifts to give you on it.

You will have moments with him that will assure you that he is who he says he is: the great comforter, provider, always present.

Trust in him by having patience. It will allow you to have unwavering trust in him, even in the hardest times of waiting. This season will end. You can have patience when you look to him in trust. Keep focusing on him through prayer, reading your Bible, etc., and then you can be patient.

If you are in a season of waiting on God’s timing, you can trust God with your life. His timing is perfect.
