⭐ How long to bake salmon at 375?

How Long to Bake Salmon at 375 (2)

What’s the salmon bake time at 375? Salmon fillets that are 4 ounces each and ½-inch thick will take 15-20 minutes in an oven preheated to 375F (190C). This time is for salmon in foil packets.

Moist fish is delish, but dry and overcooked is not. I have tips on ensuring the salmon is cooked to a safe temp below.

If you purchased a 1 lb salmon piece (454 grams), the first thing you need to do is cut it into 4 ounce (113 gram) pieces. When you cook a 1 lb piece of salmon, the outer edges tend to dry out before the middle gets to a safe internal temp. Cutting and cooking the salmon in individual portions resolves this issue.

Pat the salmon dry with paper towels, and spray 4 pieces of foil with cooking spray. Place 4 lemon slices in the center of each piece of foil. Place a piece of salmon on top of the lemons.

If the salmon pieces have a thin edge, you should fold them under. This is another way to protect the salmon edges from drying out.

Fold the edges of each piece of foil up to help contain liquids. Drizzle melted butter on top of the salmon pieces, and sprinkle on Cajun seasoning (or whatever herbs and spices you’d like). Add fresh minced garlic and freshly squeezed lemon juice to each packet.

Fold the foil packets closed and place them in a single layer on a dark baking sheet. Put the cookie sheet on a rack about ⅓ down from the top of the preheated oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes.

After baking, check the temperature of the salmon with a meat thermometer. If it is at a safe temp, allow it to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

😋 How long to bake salmon at 375 per pound?

The general rule of thumb is to cook a pound of salmon for about 15-20 minutes at 375. However, you’ll get more even cooking by cutting the salmon into smaller pieces first. For stovetop cooking, salmon takes approximately 10 minutes per inch of thickness (2.54 cm).

🥘 Baked Salmon Ingredients

Here’s what you need for this oven baked salmon recipe:

  • Fresh salmon (or thawed from frozen)
  • Fresh lemon
  • Melted butter
  • Cajun spice (or other seasonings)
  • Minced garlic cloves
  • Cooking oil spray

Specific quantities of all ingredients are in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

If you don’t like Cajun spice, dill, parsley, Italian seasoning, lemon pepper, paprika, or other seasonings could work here. If your salmon pieces are thinner or thicker than ½-inch, this will impact the total cooking time.

For kitchen equipment, you need a good knife, a lemon squeezer, some foil, an instant-read thermometer, and a rimmed baking sheet. You’ll also need an oven (of course).

🔥 How to Long to Bake Salmon at 375 in Foil

Salmon in foil packets takes about 15-20 minutes at 375. Make sure to preheat the oven.

DO NOT broil the opened salmon packets after baking unless you want to risk on oven fire. Though many salmon recipes recommend this, the butter in my salmon packets caught on fire. (Yes, recipe development can lead to interesting pre-dinner adventures sometimes!)

Check the salmon with an instant read thermometer to ensure it was thoroughly cooked after baking. Add additional cooking time if it has not reached 145F (63C).

🤔 How Long to Bake Salmon at 375 without Foil

You can bake salmon in parchment paper packets for 15-20 minutes in an oven preheated to 375F. Add more cooking time if the salmon has not reached 145F (63C). This is a good option for those who prefer not to cook with foil.

⏲ How Long to Bake Marinated Salmon at 375

Bake marinated salmon on an uncovered baking sheet for 10-15 minutes in an oven preheated to 375. The exact cooking time will depend on the thickness and weight of the salmon pieces you’re using.

🥶 How Long to Bake Frozen Salmon at 375

Most sources recommend baking frozen salmon at a higher temp than 375. At lower temps, your frozen salmon will take a very long time to cook, with a high risk of drying out.

I recommend baking frozen salmon in a baking dish covered with foil at 425F for 15 minutes. Then uncover the salmon, season, and continue baking an additional 8-15 minutes. The precise cooking time will depend on the thickness of your salmon pieces.

As always, you want to check the salmon with a meat thermometer after baking. Once it has reached 140-145F (60-63C), let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

🔪 How to Long to Bake Salmon at 375 in Air Fryer

I prefer to air fry salmon at a higher temperature than 375, to help prevent it from drying out. Here are my instructions for both fresh and frozen salmon in the air fryer. These directions should also work in a convection oven.

You can use a Ninja Foodi, Philips, Nuwave, Pampered Chef, Actifry, Instant Pot Vortex, Cosori, Breville, Kalorik, or another air fryer to cook salmon. Cooking times may vary between air fryer brands. Always check the food early the first time you try a new air fryer recipe.

️ How do you know when salmon is done?

According to the USDA, the safe minimum internal temperature for salmon is 145F (63C). Fully cooked salmon flakes easily with a fork. Check the thickest part of the salmon fillet with a kitchen thermometer to make sure it reached the safe temp.

Salmon continues cooking for a few minutes after leaving the oven. It is generally safe to take the salmon out a little early (140F/60C) if you let it rest a few minutes before serving.

🌡️ How to Store Baked Salmon

You can store baked salmon in the fridge for up to 3-4 days (USDA), but I feel it’s freshest for only 1-2 days. Keep the fish in a covered food-safe container to help prevent transfer of odors. You can also freeze cooked salmon in freezer bags with the air pressed out.

Salmon can be reheated in the microwave on high for 1-2 minutes. Remember to discard the foil before microwaving!

Since we’re baking individual salmon packets here, I think it’s best just to make what you’ll eat. Raw salmon can be kept in the refrigerator for 1-2 days before cooking or freezing.

This is a level 1 recipe (may help support fat loss). Salmon is considered a fatty fish, and thus not a lean protein. However, the fats contained in salmon are good, healthy fats. Salmon is a great choice for a main dish in a variety of healthy meals that support weight loss.

If you want to lower the saturated fat in your diet, swap the butter in this recipe for olive oil. If you’ve been told your LDL cholesterol is too high, substituting some of the butter in your diet for more unsaturated fats is a smart move.

To create a filling, low calorie meal with salmon, serve it with non-starchy vegetables. Garden salads, broccoli, asparagus, zucchini, and green beans are some examples. Minimize the oily dressings or oil used to cook the veggies, as you’re already getting plenty of fat from the salmon.

For a higher energy meal, serve the salmon over a generous portion of rice (or another grain). Make sure to pour the garlic butter sauce over the salmon and the rice! It's so good. You’ll want to add some veggies to your high calorie meal as well.

Fresh salmon can be expensive. If it’s out of your budget, look for sales on frozen salmon fillets, or try canned salmon instead.

Sometimes bulk stores like Costco have great deals on fish, but you need purchase a large quantity at once. Splitting the deals with friends or family can help lower the upfront cost.
