It is because of how in this universe, Mana is everywhere, thus in the atmosphere.
If he uses his sword to generate anti-magic vibrations/waves, he pushes back the circulating atmospheric energy, creating a motion he can use to ride on.
Or, he simply uses the flying ability he gains from his Black Asta form, but focuses it in his sword, in a simpler way, generating flying motions he can fly-skate on.
