It was acquired by Bacardi in 2004. Francois was inspired by his training as a cognac cellar master and created a vodka designed to express the true taste and character of the ingredients. He still oversees every step of the unique journey from field to bottle.

BACARDÍ is a rum brand established in 1862 that has been producing world-class rums ever since.

The company was eventually sold by Sidney Frank to Bacardi for a reported US$2.2 billion in 2004. That year, Grey Goose was the best-selling premium brand vodka in the United States, selling more than 1.5 million cases that year.

During the court fight, information came out that Jay-Z made an offer for a Bacardi buyout that valued his half of the business at $1.5 billion. Bacardi's calculation of the mogul's half was $460 million.
