The definite articles (le, la, l’, les) are really essential for speaking French. Indeed, they are almost used for all the sentences. At the beginner level (A1 level), this is one of the first things to learn and master. The video below will teach you how to use the French definite articles (le, la, l’, les) in French:

In the masculine, we use the definite article “ le ” or “ l’ ”. For example: “le bus” or “l’avion”. In the feminine, we use the definite article " la " or " l’ ". For example, “la télévision” or “l’école”. Before a vowel (a, e, i, o, u, y), we put an " l’ ". In the plural, we use the definite article “les“. For example: “les bus” or “les écoles”.

“Le” before a common noun in the singular masculine. Example: le bus.

“La” before a common noun in the singular feminine. Example: la télévision.

“ L’ ” before a common noun in the masculine and feminine singular starting with a vowel (a, e, i, o, u, y). Examples : l’avion, l’école.
