The pizza industry is no stranger to (sometimes questionable) innovation. In 2012, we saw the emergence of a $66 Kobe beef pizza, a pizza with two rings of crust, deep-fried pizza, vodka-topped pizza, hot dog-stuffed crust pizza, and cheeseburger-stuffed crust pizza. Apparently pizza won't get a rest in 2013.
Domino's Japan will top its newest pizzas with an ingredient that's favored in the country: mayonnaise. The pizza chain has four new pies to serve, all covered with mayo: Mayo Potato, Chicken Teriyaki, Avocado Shrimp, and Giant Quattro.
You may wonder why pizzas topped with mayonnaise would be a hit in Japan, but Huffington Post points out that the typical mayo served in Japan isn't like the kind we're used to in the U.S. The Japanese version is a bit sweeter, thanks to apple and malt vinegar mixed with egg yolks (mayo served in the U.S. is typically made with whole eggs).
