When should I buy travel insurance?

You can take out travel insurance at any time before your trip starts, but the sooner, the better. Buying your travel insurance as soon as you book your tickets means you're covered if something disrupts your travel, like a delay or cancellation.

If you take out travel insurance after you've booked your trip, the same protection comes into effect after a 7-day waiting period.

What kinds of recreational activities are covered?

Our travel policies cover some recreational activities like cycling, surfing, and paddle boarding, but they don’t cover more specialist activities. Examples of specialist activities include any extreme versions of any sport, or competing in a competitive event, mountaineering, or parachuting.

Cover differs between domestic and international policy wordings. Check the exclusions in the relevant wording or for more detailed information call us on0800 606 688.

Do you cover pre-existing conditions?

Some pre-existing medical conditions are automatically covered under the Comprehensive plan. Cover for pre-existing medical conditions which are not automatically covered may be available for an additional premium following a medical assessment.

There is no cover available for pre-existing medical conditions under the Cancellation Only plan.

Do you provide cover if I already have another insurance policy in place?

There is no cover if you're already covered under another insurance policy, for example, health or contents insurance.

Are my belongings covered if they're stolen?

There is cover in place if your baggage is stolen; however, there are exclusions. Please check your policy wording for more details.

What happens if I don't tell you about something that may impact my cover?

Travel insurance only covers the unexpected. Our travel insurance policies have a prior knowledge exclusion in place, which means there is no cover for anything that you were aware of when you purchased the cover that would give rise to a claim.

Do you cover children?

Our travel insurance policies are for young and old, including children travelling with adults, and unaccompanied minors.

Dependent children travelling with an adult on the same policy are covered at no additional cost. ForDomestic Cover that's children up to 18 years of age.

A parent or guardian can buy a policy for their child if they are travelling as an unaccompanied minor. They will be charged the minimum adult premium.

How do I make a travel insurance claim?

Gather your supporting documents that you'll need to include with your claim. This could be your travel itinerary, confirmation of cancellation, applicable refunds, photos, receipts, etc.

Once that's done,make your claim online. You can also call us on+64 9 487 0818if you're overseas or0800 606 688if you're back in New Zealand.
