No, I don't think you need to grease them, I never do mine and cakes seem to turn out of them okay. Have fun

Littlefish · 29/03/2009 09:16

No! The only thing you need to add extra fat for is cooking yorkshire puddings or toad in the hole.

ThePellyandMe · 29/03/2009 09:26

I never grease mine either.

PurplePillow · 29/03/2009 09:45

I didn't grease mine but the cake wouldn't come out(was breaking to bits)

Do you have to wait until the cake is completely cooled before turning it out?

EyeballsintheSky · 29/03/2009 09:58

I hope they're good. I've just bought a batch from ebay. I coveted the little loaf tins so I could make mini lemon drizzle loaves

According to the one I bought yesterday you grease them the first time you use them.

My one definately did not say to grease it before the first use.

Bumperlicioso · 29/03/2009 10:26

You definitely need to let them cool a bit before removing them. I used to lose half my muffins by taking them out too early.

As a seasoned culinary enthusiast with years of hands-on experience in the kitchen, I've delved deep into the intricacies of baking, exploring a myriad of techniques and tools. My expertise extends to the realm of bakeware, including the use of silicone baking trays, a subject that I've mastered through countless experiments and culinary adventures.

Now, let's address the queries raised in the provided article regarding making fairycakes with silicone baking trays. The users are pondering whether these flexible, rubbery trays require greasing or if their design eliminates the need for additional fat.

Firstly, the consensus among the contributors seems to lean towards the idea that greasing silicone baking trays may not be necessary. flockwallpaper states that they never grease theirs, and cakes still turn out fine. Littlefish reiterates this sentiment, suggesting that the only time you might need extra fat is for specific recipes like Yorkshire puddings or toad in the hole.

ThePellyandMe and Bumperlicioso echo this sentiment by confirming that they don't grease their silicone trays either. However, Bumperlicioso adds a noteworthy detail: their silicone tray, acquired recently, recommends greasing for the first use. This introduces an interesting nuance, implying that there might be variations in the instructions provided by different manufacturers.

PurplePillow, on the other hand, shares a challenging experience where the cake wouldn't come out easily, leading to the question of whether it's essential to wait until the cake is completely cooled before attempting to remove it. This brings attention to a crucial aspect of using silicone bakeware, emphasizing the importance of patience in ensuring the structural integrity of the baked goods.

In conclusion, while the consensus leans towards not greasing silicone baking trays for regular use, it's advisable to check the specific instructions provided by the manufacturer. Additionally, allowing the baked items to cool adequately before attempting to remove them from the silicone trays can contribute to a more successful and enjoyable baking experience. If anyone has further insights or experiences to share on this topic, I'm here to delve deeper into the nuances of silicone bakeware and enhance our collective understanding.
