Is diamond armor possible in real life? ›

Diamonds are not “metal” - diamond is a form of carbon. Although diamonds are hard - they aren't flexible. So whatever the impact force on the armor might be - that entire force would be transferred to whatever is behind it. Armor has to be able to absorb that impact energy - and diamond could not do that.

Diamond isn't metal. diamond is hard, relative to other material, but its also brittle. Brittle doesn't make good shielding.

Diamond is hard, but it is also extremely brittle. If you could somehow grow a diamond large enough to form a sword it would shatter the first time you struck it against a metal sword.

Most of the detail on why this will not work is covered in this question. While it may be possible to create a sword shaped object from diamond it is simply too brittle to be used effectively. On a side note a sword of pure carbon would also lack the mass to be effective against a similar sized steel blade.
