What is the difference between a webcam and a video conference camera? ›

If you need a camera for video conferencing, a conferencing camera is a better option. A conferencing camera is a digital video camera that is designed for group shots. Conferencing cameras do not have a narrower field of view than webcams and are typically used for video conferencing and calls.

Conducting business talks with web cameras gives the ability to communicate with people at a distance and provides presence. In such cases, a webcam is more suitable for personal video calls (without leaving your desk). Also, a webcam is a useful tool for distance learning.

As you can see, at one foot away from the camera, 72.5° FOV gives a vision of 1.4 feet across. It means that at 10 feet you get a vision of 14 feet across. A 72.5° FOV conference camera is a good choice for small conference rooms, with the conference room table at least 3 feet to 4 feet away from the camera.

Unfortunately, hackers can access this software with malware and see anything in your camera's field of vision. When they do this, it can cause the indicator light to flicker on. New files appear on your device without your knowledge: Files you don't recognize may appear harmless at first glance.

As you may already know, in photography, “zooming in” refers to increasing the size of the subject or object without changing the position of the camera. Conversely, “zooming out” makes the object smaller. Regarding how these impact the FOV (Field Of View), the FOV decreases as the camera zooms in.

Field of View (FoV): total area that can be viewed by the lens and imaged onto the camera sensor. Working distance (WD): object to lens distance where the image is at its sharpest focus. Depth of Field (DoF): maximum range where the object appears to be in acceptable focus.

However, webcams don't give you the best image quality, especially in low light. On the other hand, DSLR cameras are the type you might see professional photographers use. They're bigger and offer much better image quality. With a DSLR, your videos look crisp and clear, even when the lighting isn't perfect.

Webcams offer notoriously poor video quality, which will not suffice if you need a professional-looking video. Even cheaper digital cameras provide better resolution than most of the conventional webcams available today. While there are many good webcams on the market, they are prohibitively expensive for most people.
